Racing's grand final |
Anzac Highway (Morphettville Racecourse) Adelaide, SA 5043 Australia +61 8 8295 0111 (South Australia Jockey Club) http://www.sajc.com.au |
The Adelaide Cup is South Australia's most prestigious horse race and has been since a flier named "Falcon" led the first field home in 1864. The race—a 3,200 metre handicap—has been run at Morphettville since 1876. Big race day is a public holiday in South Australia, and each year thousands of race-goers line the track or lounge in hospitality suites, many dressed in swish outfits and outlandish hats. The race itself is the culmination of the Adelaide Cup Carnival, which mixes champagne socialising with top class racing. Review © 2007, Wcities |
