Casa Rondena Winery

Massive Moorish-style winery
733 Chavez Rd
Albuquerque, NM 87107

The North Valley is home to many impressive structures and Casa Rondena Winery is one of the most unique. This Moorish castle encloses a huge wine making operation that produces respected cabernet and sauvignon wines. The winery's Serenade is a fruity, slightly dry dessert wine. The owner and wine maker spent 20 years in southern Spain, where he learned his art, and found himself enthralled by the Moorish architecture. Mountains and streams meander across the grounds that are surrounded by the giant cottonwoods of the Rio Grande Bosque.

Give yourself the better portion of a day to visit New Mexico's largest indoor shopping mall—Cottonwood Mall. With as many as three shopping levels, this mall harbors just about anything you need or think you need. Anchored on one end by J.C. Penny's and on the other by multi-screen Starport theater, it will take some time to see it all. Strategically positioned in the center of it all is a huge, upstairs food court that looks up at an upside-down landscape and sky scape of Albuquerque.

Arrive early as more popular items are sold-out by 10a. Most local growers feature organic, fresh produce at modest prices. This growers market attracts shoppers who appreciate a slower, calmer pace than the more hurried supermarkets. The latest produce in season is sold in addition to arts and crafts, locally produced honey and baked goods.
