Give yourself the better portion of a day to visit New Mexico's largest indoor shopping mall—Cottonwood Mall. With as many as three shopping levels, this mall harbors just about anything you need or think you need. Anchored on one end by J.C. Penny's and on the other by multi-screen Starport theater, it will take some time to see it all. Strategically positioned in the center of it all is a huge, upstairs food court that looks up at an upside-down landscape and sky scape of Albuquerque.

First Plaza Galeria

Posh, underground shopping plaza
20 First Plaza
Albuquerque, NM 87102

This is one of Albuquerque's best kept secrets. Discovering this upscale shopping center, while strolling through the underground parking facilities of the Downtown area, can be somewhat of a surprise. Located beneath the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau offices, you can get in some shopping in the pricey art galleries or fine clothiers, dine in one of the restaurants, or plan your next vacation at the travel agency. The atmosphere is bright and elegant, and the shopkeepers' association strives to maintain a reputation of quality service and merchandise.

Once you enter Scottsdale Village which is a small, hidden shopping center, you will forget that you are in the heart of a modern, bustling city. Everything about this center reminds you of a European shopping arcade. The outdoor tables of a small sandwich shop share sidewalk space with a display of teddy bears peeking over the sideboards of antique wooden wagons. More than 23 shops occupy space including a wedding chapel and gift shop, metaphysical gift shop and bookstore, a real, old-fashioned barber shop, antique stores and a tuxedo rental store.

Activities, demonstrations and festivals are planned for many weekends. This newly-developed center houses a number of shops, all of which sell products that are steeped in the native traditions of the state. You will find Navajo Rugs, native jewelers, art galleries and more. The developers have big plans for the future but it will be hard to beat what is already there.
