Billed as the world's most photographed event, see why more than one million visitors flock to Albuquerque each fall to witness spectacular dawn skyscapes as 1,000 balloons color the sky during mass ascensions. The fiesta features special shape balloons with exclusive mass ascensions, flying competitions, and the popular nighttime "Glowdeo." Over ten years ago a group of merchants got together and organized this monthly event, which has turned out to be a great hit in the community. On the last Friday of every month, a chosen number of galleries around town stay open extra late and host receptions, performances and demonstrations. The galleries are located in places like Old Town, Downtown, and Nob Hill. This gathering features world-class artists, and craftsmen and women from the southwest and around the world. The talent and skill that is exhibited here is exquisite in detail and masterful in scope. Wood workers and blacksmiths, sculptors, painters, potters, weavers and jewelers exhibit and sell their work at reasonable prices. Food, beverages and tickets are available for a morning, afternoon or evening of browsing and buying beautiful art work and fine crafts. The festival takes place at the state fairgrounds.
