This festival showcases children's documentaries, feature films, television and new media from around the world. A jury awards prizes in four categories: films for children, films for young people, Dutch television, and Dutch new media. Apart from the sheer entertainment factor, the festival also includes academic discussions and seminars on such topics as animation and screenwriting for children. If you are between 4 and 17 years of age you can try out the circus life for a day. At Circustheater Elleboog you can learn clowning skills, special circus and clown tricks, make-up skills, as well as juggling and tightrope walking. At the end of the day you perform your circus skills in front of your parents and friends, so they can see that you are a real circus artist. Non-member sessions are always busy, mostly with Dutch kids, but the staff speaks English. Circustheater Elleboog also organises children's birthday parties (call for details). De Krakeling is Amsterdam's children's theatre. There are more than 210 performances per season for children aged between 4 and 18 years old. There are different kinds of performances, such as drama, music, dance, and puppet theatre. The building is more than 100 years old and owes its name to the nearby 'Koekjesbrug' (cookie-bridge). The theatre used to be a gymnastics hall. Performances: 2p Wednesday (for 4-8 years old) and Sunday (for 6 year olds and older); 8pm Friday and Saturday (family performances for 8 years old and up). Sporting Club Leidseplein is located in the middle of Amsterdam, of course close to the Leidseplein. This complex is very popular among Amsterdam students, and is known for its relaxed atmosphere.
