Wooden Actors |
Nieuwe Jonkerstraat 8 Amsterdam 1011 CM +31 (0)20 620 8027 http://www.marionettentheater.nl info@marionettentheater.nl |
The Amsterdam's Marionetten Theater, situated near the Nieuwmarkt, hosts a classic marionette theatre for adults and children eight and up. The puppets, costumes, props and décor are hand crafted by a team of talented woodcarvers, sculptors and painters. After the performances, one may have a look behind the scenes to see how the puppets are manipulated and understand the techniques and tricks used. Performances are seasonal and advance reservations are recommended. Children's parties with performances can also be coordinated. Let yourself go wide-eyed at these shows, which draw a few enchanted breaths from everyone. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Prepare a delicious meal for your parents |
Vondelpark 6b (Overto Amsterdam 1071 AA +34 (0)20 625 3257 http://www.kinderkookkafe.nl info@kinderkookkafe.nl |
This small restaurant is run entirely by children: they cook, serve, bring the bill and wash up, all with a little help from the friendly grown-up staff, of course. The simple set menu includes main course and dessert: ingredients are fresh, the food is healthy and prices are very low. On Saturdays and Sundays children can even cook for their own guests. From 3:30pm onwards on Saturdays, kids between the ages of six and 12 can prepare dinner; on Sundays over five can prepare and serve an English style high tea. The average cost is EUR10. Reservations are necessary. Review © 2007, Wcities |

When in Amsterdam -- Bike |
Damstraat 20-22 Amsterdam 1012 +31 (0)20 625 5029 http://www.bikes.nl info@bikes.nl |
The Netherlands, and Amsterdam in particular, can be described as Little China in terms of use of bikes. Bikes of every type form part of the view on every street. There are more bikes than inhabitants in this country, and this central bike agency is one of the best. The store also offers guided bike tours and lends bikes out on hire. See website for rental rates, tour info, and list of bikes for sale. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Flemish cultural centre |
Nes 45 Amsterdam 1012 KD +31 (0)20 622 9014 http://www.brakkegrond.nl/ info@brakkegrond.nl |
In 1981, this Flemish cultural centre was opened on the Nes. De Brakke Grond helps to integrate the culture of Flemish society into the Netherlands. Moreover, it greatly promotes Flanders. Lots of activities highlighting the Flemish element of Dutch culture take place here. This is done through tours, concerts and exhibitions, but also through literary nights and lectures. It provides a nice overview of all that Flanders has to offer. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Discover the City on Foot |
Stationsplein 10 Amsterdam 1012 AB +31 20 201 8800 http://www.visitamsterdam.nl info@atcb.nl |
The best way to explore the (inner) city of Amsterdam is to walk around. Compared to other capitals, this is a small one; the compact inner city and its sights can be discovered within a few square kilometres. Walking tours are arranged by the VVV tourist office, some with pre-recorded audio guides and a city map. There are evening walks, mystery tours, walks around the Red Light District and there is a Journey through Jordaan among others. Review © 2007, Wcities |
