The shop offers instructional books, videos and CDs for those who are just learning to play the instrument. Demonstrations, workshops and private lessons are also available. The shop has an extra space, used for exhibitions, cultural events such as readings, film evenings, concerts and jamming sessions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This respected jeweller can be found next to the flower market in the centre of Amsterdam. The shop is situated in a lovely building right on the corner of the Leidsestraat. Like other jewellers, Ace & Spyer sells great looking rings, necklaces and bracelets. Remarkably, this shop sells watches spanning a huge price range. Cheap Swatch watches can be bought here, yet it is also a good location to know should you be searching for a more expensive one, such as a Breitling or Tag-Heuer. The interior of the shop is well kept and the service is excellent. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Biggest daily market in Amsterdam |
Albert Cuypstraat 217-219 Amsterdam 1073 BG +31 (0)20 693 7117 http://www.albertcuypmarkt.com albert@albertcuypmarkt.com |
The Albert Cuyp, situated near the famous former Heineken brewery, is Amsterdam's largest and busiest daily market. From Monday to Saturday it is packed with local shoppers rather than tourists. You can buy anything here, from fresh fish to fresh fruit; from fabric to footwear - and of course you'll have to try the delicious traditional Dutch herring with onions and pickles. You can also find many exotic foods and herbs at this market, stocked by and for the non-Dutch Amsterdam community. Generally speaking the prices are low but make sure you are getting value for money. By visiting the Albert Cuyp market you'll get a taste of real multi-cultural Amsterdam streetlife. Established a decade ago in the middle of the "X-Files" hype, this small shop offers products and information for both the hardened alien/conspiracy theorist and for the less fanatical alien-curious. This bookstore may well be the largest source of English books on the Continent and is probably the cheapest place to buy new books in Amsterdam. Their customer service is great, as staff do not just sell the books, but are also tasked with buying them. So if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, as they are very clued up. Between the basement and the second floor, they stock hardbacks, paperbacks and magazines on almost any subject, so there definitely is something here for everyone. The books are a fantastic value, especially for students who get a 10 percent discount with some ID. Review © 2007, Wcities |

As the all-volunteer staff say of themselves, they specialize in "Libertarian and radical ideas from the first to the fifth world and beyond." Clearly this is not a shop for the average book lover. There are more than thirty exclusive stores here, spread over three floors, for instance Mango, DKNY, Timberland, Hugo Boss, Levi's, Kipling and Replay. Eccentric bags, unique bags, or famous bags; every bag you can imagine can be found at the Tassenmuseum Hendrikje. Lately, the collection has been updated with a particular item by Versace, especially made for Madonna and worn by her during the premiere of Evita. Regularly there are also exhilarating exhibitions displaying the work of Dutch designers. Don't forget to stop by the cafe for a bite. See website for visitor information. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stationsplein 10 Amsterdam 1012 AB +31 (0)20 551 2525 (Tourist Information) |
If you happen to be in Amsterdam, this market is a must-visit. From antiques and jewelry to local produce, there's a lot to shop for (on Mondays it transforms into a flea-market, while Saturdays are reserved for organic foods). Stock up on your provisions for the month, or find some little treasure to take home as a souvenir—you can bargain with the locals, who offer some really reasonable prices. While here, don't forget to make your way to Café Winkel for their famous pies. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great men's clothes shop |
Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat 75-81 Amsterdam 1071 BP +31 20 676 8695 http://www.oger.nl |
Oger is located in Amsterdam's nicest shopping street, the P.C. Hooftstraat and is a very well known name in Amsterdam. It offers a very large collection of both business and leisurewear that is all nicely displayed in their great looking shops in the Informal, Dressed for Success, Atelier Italia and Boardroom departments, each of which has its own entrance from the outside. The service is terrific. There are many employees walking around in the shop, so there is always somebody free to help you find something, or help fit you. The clothing is all of the highest quality and includes brands like Armani. The shop is not cheap, but it offers some of the most exclusive garments to be bought in Amsterdam. Dance music and more |
Zeedijk 22 Amsterdam 1012 AZ +31 20 638 7576 http://www.outlandrecords.nl/ outlandrecords@zonnet.nl |
Outland Records is not a very large record shop, but if you are looking for modern dance music this is definitely the place to go - almost all types of dance music are stocked. The design of the shop includes a built-in bar (where it is permitted to smoke) with a number of turntables and CD players for customer use. Most people choose to relax and listen on the comfy couches while sipping a soft drink or a coffee from the machine. You can also find lots of party information and flyers here, or buy pre-sale tickets for the advertized parties and venues. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the service is great. Don't forget to have a look downstairs where they offer many more records and CD's. Review © 2007, Wcities |
