If the classical architecture of the Hotel Seven One Seven doesn't impress you, the breathtaking view of the city surely will. Designed by noted Dutch fashion designer and decorator Kees van der Valk, each of the eight suites in the guestroom has a personality of its own. Listed as a historical site, the restored heritage building with its dark interiors blends the old world charm of a 19th century home with the amenities of modern life. The name of the hotel is inspired by the street address of the canal itself. With the exception of the 'Room on Top', all the other rooms are named after famous figures from the world of art such as Goethe, Picasso and Shakespeare.

Sugar Factory

Amsterdam's Progressive Theater
Lijnbaansgracht 238
Amsterdam, Amsterdam 1017 PH
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 627 00 08
http://www.sugarfactory.nl/
publicity@sugarfactory.nl
The Sugar Factory, located just steps away from the Leidseplein, features a variety of shows and doubles as a nightclub. Early shows are played to a seated audience, Cabaret-style, catering to a progressive, artsy audience. The fun only ends at 4 AM when the theater has been a dance floor since midnight with the DJ inspiring the crowd to dance the night away. As most venues in Amsterdam, the bar is stocked, the dance floor is small and the music is loud. Self-proclaimed as culturally independent, this nightclub attracts a more mature crowd than the Melkweg, located across the street. -Rachel Hanson
