The Dutch pannekoek is a more exotic variety of a pancake; more thinner and larger, and definitely more tastier. One of the best places in Amsterdam to savor it is Meneer Pannekoek Café. This Pannekoekenhuis (pancake house) is located conveniently behind the dam and thus is almost always packed. Cosy interiors with Hollywood actors in black and white watch over your table, as the leisurely-moving waiters serve hot and fresh pannekoeks. Some of their specials include the delicious smoked salmon and mixed nuts coconut amaretto whipped cream treat. They also serve sandwiches, quiche, soups, omelets, salads and even steak, beef sirloin, hamburger, chicken pasta, hotchpotch or grilled salmon. The cafe is also one of the rare Dutch restaurants to have a non-smoking area.
