Old Dutch grand café |
Leidsekade 97 Amsterdam 1017 PN Netherlands +31 (0)20 556 3009 http://www.amsterdamamerican.c... |
Calling it a cafe really doesn't do justice to Cafe American—this is not only the oldest Grand Cafe in the Netherlands, but both the building and its interior are listed monuments and it's easy to see why. The interior is impressive, to say the least, with beautiful stained glass windows, huge murals and quite stunning chandeliers. An antique reading table is also present, well-stocked with the latest newspapers and magazines. In true American style, the cafe has a separate non-smoking area, and to top it off, there is a large terrace that gives a good view of the Leidseplein. This place is definitely one to visit. Cozy Terrace Bar With Good Music |
Leidseplein 14 Amsterdam, NH 1017 PT Netherlands +31 20 623 8361 http://www.cafedewaard.nl/?l=eng |
No its not a Gaulish tavern you would find in an Asterix comic, yet you find the mascot bearing an uncanny resemblance to the comic superhero and there are comic strips all over the place. Coming to the food, it's a good mix of European and American fare with all the flavors intact and serves the best nocturnal meal money can buy. A popular hangout with the night birds, the bar is always buzzing with energy, loads of action and music. Adjacent to the bar is an open terrace where you can wine and dine in the evening breeze. The central location of De Waard makes it the obvious choice for many locals and tourists alike. When hunger strikes at unearthly hours, De Waard's doors are open for you. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located in the city centre, the good folks at Chicano's are in the business of providing Amsterdam with quality Tex-Mex cuisine. The merging of culinary styles between Mexican and American food enables the customer to enjoy chicken enchiladas and rib-eye steaks in the same sitting. This restaurant is popular with families, business types, and students alike. Check out Chicano's website for its second Amsterdam location. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This cafe is located in the city centre and has a very colourful and stylish interior. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast, a quick lunch or a small dinner here. This is where you will find one of the best club sandwiches in town. The specialities here include delicious salads. You can expect to be served high quality food at reasonable prices. Designer Boreck Sipeck tried to put as many tables as possible into this tiny rectangular room-and succeeded. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Steakhouse with a splendid view |
Oudebrugsteeg 16 Amsterdam, NH 1012 JP Netherlands +31 20 626 1259 |
Located on the second floor of a monumental premises, Evita is your classic steakhouse albeit with a sophisticated ambiance. The eclectic eatery borrows heavily from the South American and Spanish cuisine and consistently innovates on its gourmet delights. The assortment of charcoal grilled meat is delectable and so are the crunchy salads and the sinful desserts. The beef pepper steak is a hot favorite and the barbecued chicken gives it a tough fight. But the real puller here is the panoramic view of the city at night. Amongst the dime a dozen steakhouses mushrooming all over Amsterdam, Evita stands out for more reasons than one.
