Intimate enjoyment in a small pub |
Plantage Parklaan 10 Amsterdam 1018 ST Netherlands +31 (0)20 625 4721 http://www.bamboeseur.nl |
The Bamboeseur is a small, cosy bar-bodega offering the normal range of drinks, snacks and lunches. Evenings, the mezzanine is turned into a small restaurant with a limited European menu of daily vegetarian and non-vegetarion specials. The clientele is mainly under average of age, the CD-player often produces rather loud modern music, the ambiance is mainly jovial and merry. The service at the 10-stool bar is mostly female, friendly and correct. And yes there is Heineken on draught. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Centrally Located Brasserie |
Rokin 74-76 Amsterdam 1012 KW Netherlands +31 (0)20 624 2582 http://www.beems-brasserie.nl/ |
This is French cuisine with delicious touches of Italy - a brasserie with the allure of a Parisian boulevard café. In the summer, Beems has a large terrace, making it the perfect central lunch destination. The kitchen is open until 9:30p, so dinner is also a possibility. A three-course menu is offered here, but items may also be ordered à la carte. A small menu featuring lighter, lunch-type dishes is available until 5pm. The food served here is of high quality; there is also a delicatessen on premises. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pick your Belgian Ambiance |
Herengracht 88 Amsterdam, NH 1015 BS Netherlands +31 20 624 9635 http://www.restaurantlieve.nl |
This traditional Belgian restaurant has a creative system of allowing patrons to "choose their own ambiance." Gastronomical, Belgian Baroque, and "The Living Room" are sections of the restaurant that reflect a different aspect of Belgian food and culture. The menus and wine list in all three sections are extensive. Check the website's menu in the English section to better understand the unique characteristics of each part of the restaurant. An agreeable drink and dinner in a former custom-house |
Cruquiusweg 3 Amsterdam 1019 AT Netherlands +31 (0)20 693 3299 http://www.boulevardcafe.nl/ |
The exterior has not been changed since this custom-house was built in 1901. Inside the ambiance is also being helped by the very high original steel rafters. At the 10-stool bar one is served by friendly people of both sexes, who also serve luncheon and dinner in this roomy place with a glazed veranda, a small raised platform where live music is played at times and a storey-high mezzanine perfectly fit for more private parties, or a rendezvous dinner with an old or new love. Every month a new special beer is introduced, Flemish or Dutch, sometimes from the IJ-brewery nearby. For lunch there are sandwiches and rolls, soup of the day. A blackboard shows the specials of the day. The à la carte menu has a broad choice of first courses, meat and fish dishes, vegetarian food and desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Brasserie for late nights |
Van Baerlestraat 120 Amsterdam 1071 BD Netherlands +31 (0)20 675 0210 http://www.bark.nl |
This brasserie is located near the cultural centre of Amsterdam. The focus here is definitely on fish and seafood. Bark stands out from other nearby restaurants because it is open late until midnight. The interior was recently redesigned and now has an open kitchen, where guests are welcome to have a look around. Much of the clientele here are concert-goers from Museum Square. Being situated in a very important cultural part of Amsterdam, many of Bark's customers are visitors to the multitude of museums in the surrounding area. This is a lively restaurant, which combines a culinary experience with a dynamic atmosphere. It is also one of a group of restaurants known for their excellent customer service. Fish and seafood of all sorts are the specialities here: anything from tuna to shark to crab and dorado can be found on the regularly updated menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat, Drink and be Merry |
12 Egelantiersgracht Amsterdam, NH 1015 Netherlands +31 20 344 4560 |
This charming cafe in the De Jordaan district offers a wide range of drinks and food in a comfortable setting. The interior is dark and roomy (by Amsterdam's standards), with several tables and bar stools arranged on a checkered floor. There is also space on a floating platform outside that is ideal during nice weather. In addition to the wide selection of beers, wines, coffees, and teas, the cafe has a full menu of snacks. You can choose from soups, salads, sandwiches, or tapas-style plates to go with your drink. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dual cafes |
Runstraat 39430 Amsterdam 1016 GK Netherlands +31 (0)20 622 6686 http://www.doffer.com/ |
When coming here, you can choose from two separately operated restaurants. Have a delicious sandwich made by Chef Jan-Willem at the "Brown Bar" or the Game soup at the adjoining restaurant. With a cozy atmosphere and friendly service, this is the perfect place to relax and exit the high-stress tourist world. The atmosphere may even make you reminiscent of past summers spent at your grandmother's house. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dining with attitude |
Marnixstraat 381 Amsterdam 1016 XR Netherlands +31 (0)20 625 4482 http://www.cafedekoe.nl/ |
De Koe (The Cow) is a real bovine bonanza! Pictures of cows, sketches of cows, cow statues, and other assorted cow objects are abound. In order to keep it fresh, the paintings on the ceiling change sporadically showcasing new artists. For cocktails or beer, you can head straight upstairs to the bar, or dine in a small, comfortable setting downstairs. The food ranges from hot dishes, to pastas and salads. As locals and tourists alike frequent this restaurant for it's bubbly atmosphere, friendly service and tasty food, expect to wait upstairs at the bar before dining. Live bands play on the weekends. Prinsenstraat 3 Amsterdam 1015 DA Netherlands +31 20 627 9393 |
This cafe is located in the city centre and has a very colourful and stylish interior. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast, a quick lunch or a small dinner here. This is where you will find one of the best club sandwiches in town. The specialities here include delicious salads. You can expect to be served high quality food at reasonable prices. Designer Boreck Sipeck tried to put as many tables as possible into this tiny rectangular room-and succeeded. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional jazz in an old pub |
Kloveniersburgwal 59 Amsterdam 1011 JZ Netherlands +31 (0)20 625 3772 |
This literary pub is located in the middle of the old city centre on a quiet canal where very little reading is ever done, but very nice old-fashioned jazz is played by the house-band. This place is seldom really packed and the quiet young and old fans of this traditional acoustic music alway have plenty of room and do not have to push and pull to get near their adored musicians. The young female service behind the bar is fast and efficient. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Best French Toast in Amsterdam! |
Berenstraat 20 Amsterdam, NH 1016 GH Netherlands +31 206231048 |
Hein is a small and charming lunch cafe in Amsterdam's 9 Streets shopping area. Chef/owner Hein Jansen prepares everything herself in the small open kitchen, which customers must walk through to get to the seating area. There is a diverse set menu as well as daily specials. Thick Turkish yogurt with honey, crepes stuffed with chicken, quiche lorraine and fresh lentil salad are all worth trying, but the french toast is the real gem at this joint - pure homemade deliciousness! Hein is also open for private cooking lessons or dinner parties in the evenings, a minimum of 10 guests is required. -Shayne Gottdenker Review © 2007, Wcities |

Students and creative folk |
Spuistraat 189 Amsterdam 1012 VN Netherlands +31 20 638 9357 |
This is quite a large bar, located near Dam Square. It is close to a part of the University and is frequented by students. Schuim translates as "foam", which is probably an indication of their most commonly served drink: beer. Het Schuim is a bit more than your usual student hangout. It gets quite a creative crowd, especially in the evening when the age of the clientèle rises. It looks the part, with that typical "thrown together" interior that seems to be the norm for every trendy bar at the moment. The pictures on the wall, which is used as an art gallery, are changed regularly. Het Schuim will serve about six draught beers and somewhere around 15 bottled beers at any given time. There is almost always one beer that is heavy enough to knock out a small elephant. Review © 2007, Wcities |
