Bagels, juice and coffee |
Ferdinand Bolstraat 70 Amsterdam 1072 LM Netherlands +31 (0)20 672 1610 http://www.bagelsbeans.nl/fr/m... |
In America, the bagel is already a huge success—and now it's also becoming very popular in Holland. At the top of the Albert Cuyp market you'll find Bagels & Beans. Here you can enjoy some delicious bagels for both breakfast and lunch. Many different varieties are on the menu, such as the standard bagel with cream cheese, or with Scottish smoked salmon. Complement your bagel with a blended fruit drink or a bracing cappuccino. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Lovely little bakery |
Roelof Hartstraat 68 Amsterdam 1071 VM Netherlands +31 (0)20 662 3594 http://www.debakkerswinkel.nl |
When you set foot in De Bakkerswinkel you feel like you are entering an old French bakery. The warm smell of baguettes, petit pains au chocolat and big round provençal bread, prepared with olives, garlic, thyme and sun-dried tomatoes tempts even the most strong-willed. De Bakkerswinkel uses traditional French recipes for its goods and there's plenty of space for hungry customers to take a seat. You can fill your stomach with a sandwich, quiche, salad or soup, and enjoy a cup of tea. In the summertime, the little terrace opens up for outside use. You can rent De Bakkerswinkel for a special event, private dinner or to take high tea with some friends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Intimate enjoyment in a small pub |
Plantage Parklaan 10 Amsterdam 1018 ST Netherlands +31 (0)20 625 4721 http://www.bamboeseur.nl |
The Bamboeseur is a small, cosy bar-bodega offering the normal range of drinks, snacks and lunches. Evenings, the mezzanine is turned into a small restaurant with a limited European menu of daily vegetarian and non-vegetarion specials. The clientele is mainly under average of age, the CD-player often produces rather loud modern music, the ambiance is mainly jovial and merry. The service at the 10-stool bar is mostly female, friendly and correct. And yes there is Heineken on draught. Review © 2007, Wcities |

An agreeable drink and dinner in a former custom-house |
Cruquiusweg 3 Amsterdam 1019 AT Netherlands +31 (0)20 693 3299 http://www.boulevardcafe.nl/ |
The exterior has not been changed since this custom-house was built in 1901. Inside the ambiance is also being helped by the very high original steel rafters. At the 10-stool bar one is served by friendly people of both sexes, who also serve luncheon and dinner in this roomy place with a glazed veranda, a small raised platform where live music is played at times and a storey-high mezzanine perfectly fit for more private parties, or a rendezvous dinner with an old or new love. Every month a new special beer is introduced, Flemish or Dutch, sometimes from the IJ-brewery nearby. For lunch there are sandwiches and rolls, soup of the day. A blackboard shows the specials of the day. The à la carte menu has a broad choice of first courses, meat and fish dishes, vegetarian food and desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat, Drink and be Merry |
12 Egelantiersgracht Amsterdam, NH 1015 Netherlands +31 20 344 4560 |
This charming cafe in the De Jordaan district offers a wide range of drinks and food in a comfortable setting. The interior is dark and roomy (by Amsterdam's standards), with several tables and bar stools arranged on a checkered floor. There is also space on a floating platform outside that is ideal during nice weather. In addition to the wide selection of beers, wines, coffees, and teas, the cafe has a full menu of snacks. You can choose from soups, salads, sandwiches, or tapas-style plates to go with your drink. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dual cafes |
Runstraat 39430 Amsterdam 1016 GK Netherlands +31 (0)20 622 6686 http://www.doffer.com/ |
When coming here, you can choose from two separately operated restaurants. Have a delicious sandwich made by Chef Jan-Willem at the "Brown Bar" or the Game soup at the adjoining restaurant. With a cozy atmosphere and friendly service, this is the perfect place to relax and exit the high-stress tourist world. The atmosphere may even make you reminiscent of past summers spent at your grandmother's house. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trendy bar |
Spui 24 Amsterdam 1012 XA Netherlands +31 20 620 6264 http://www.luxembourg.nl |
This Grand Cafe on the Spui is a real landmark. Always busy and very trendy. The kitchen has quite an international feel to it and while it can be a bit pricey, the food is good quality. A decent selection of wines and beers are on offer. A favourite of the dreaded Young Urban Professional, you might think this is not for you but you would be wrong. Luxembourg is a great cafe, the lovely conservatory makes for a great place to hang out and the overall style of the interior is great. It can get very busy, but it is so conveniently located and famous that you really do not have an excuse not to pop in. Review © 2007, Wcities |

New Dutch Delicacies |
Roelof Hartstraat 1 Amsterdam, NH 1071 VE Netherlands +31 20 571 1511 http://www.thecollegehotel.com... |
Housed in a heritage building, The College Hotel Restaurant was formerly a school resembling the nearby Rijks Museum. Here, the dining experience is marked with class. Aromas of cinnamon, anise, nutmeg and pepper waft around the interestingly designed presentations. With a hint of traditional Dutch taste, the food is delicious and contemporary. This diner at College Hotel (The) is open daily for breakfast and serves lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This cafe is located in the city centre and has a very colourful and stylish interior. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast, a quick lunch or a small dinner here. This is where you will find one of the best club sandwiches in town. The specialities here include delicious salads. You can expect to be served high quality food at reasonable prices. Best French Toast in Amsterdam! |
Berenstraat 20 Amsterdam, NH 1016 GH Netherlands +31 206231048 |
Hein is a small and charming lunch cafe in Amsterdam's 9 Streets shopping area. Chef/owner Hein Jansen prepares everything herself in the small open kitchen, which customers must walk through to get to the seating area. There is a diverse set menu as well as daily specials. Thick Turkish yogurt with honey, crepes stuffed with chicken, quiche lorraine and fresh lentil salad are all worth trying, but the french toast is the real gem at this joint - pure homemade deliciousness! Hein is also open for private cooking lessons or dinner parties in the evenings, a minimum of 10 guests is required. -Shayne Gottdenker Review © 2007, Wcities |

A historical trip |
Nieuwmarkt 4 Amsterdam 1012 CR Netherlands +31 (0)20 422 7772 |
The name befits the location: a trip to "In de Waag" will find you within the walls of the city's oldest building, at the bustling city center. Built in 1488, the structure's design and décor takes one back to its glory days. Careful preservation and embellishment with candles and mood lighting give the interiors a warm, romantic and classy ambiance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Breakfast on the terrace |
Nieuwmarkt 32-34 Amsterdam 1012 CS Netherlands +31 (0)20 627 2635 |
This café-coffeehouse (the little shanty), is located at Nieuwmarkt Square, in the old city centre, with a view of the Waag. Enjoy a lively breakfast on the terrace that faces eastward, while taking in the air and the surroundings. Sandwiches are available in plenty, be it for breakfast or lunch. Het Loosje has some remarkable interiors; notable are the wall tiles that depict historical events and give the café its atmosphere. Beers include La Chouffe, De Koninck, Columbus and Pilsener Urquell. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Lovely Irish pub with good food |
Oudezijds Kolk 9 Amsterdam 1012 AL Netherlands +31 (0)20 624 1150 |
Great looking Irish pub that looks like a cavern and probably has the best food of all the Irish pubs in Amsterdam. Here, you can get a full Irish breakfast or a tasty roast dinner. Its slogan is: "If you're thirsty, hungry or need to relax with friends, some of which you haven't met yet, where would you go? Molly's!" And it lives up to its advertising. The atmosphere, like in most Irish pubs, is friendly and there is a nice community feeling here. Review © 2007, Wcities |
