Cafe Cox

Sleek, comfortable dinner-cinema
Marnixstraat 429
Amsterdam 1017 PK
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 0620 7222
http://www.cafecox.nl/
Located in a nice area, this theater-café draws people looking for a conversational night out as well as an intimate dinner for two. Tall ceilings create an open airy atmosphere whether you are sitting on the lower level, or the small upper seating area. The rustic French décor and brass iron railings create a sleek, simple style, which works well with the faint yellow walls. Whether you are coming for a few cocktails or a full meal, the bustling atmosphere will draw you in.

When coming here, you can choose from two separately operated restaurants. Have a delicious sandwich made by Chef Jan-Willem at the "Brown Bar" or the Game soup at the adjoining restaurant. With a cozy atmosphere and friendly service, this is the perfect place to relax and exit the high-stress tourist world. The atmosphere may even make you reminiscent of past summers spent at your grandmother's house.

Café - Thijssen

Classic yet contemporary
Brouwersgracht 107
Amsterdam 1015 GD
Netherlands

Cafe Thijssen makes an interesting use of wood in its décor, which explains the very classic look in the furnishings. Step in here in the mornings to read your newspapers over a delicious cup of coffee. If you decide not to come in, the aroma will probably drag you in anyway. You can also sample scrumptious broodjes of ham or cheese, Runderpastrami and the peppery chicken. Although, it does tend to get a bit crowded during the weekends.

De Koe (The Cow) is a real bovine bonanza! Pictures of cows, sketches of cows, cow statues, and other assorted cow objects are abound. In order to keep it fresh, the paintings on the ceiling change sporadically showcasing new artists. For cocktails or beer, you can head straight upstairs to the bar, or dine in a small, comfortable setting downstairs. The food ranges from hot dishes, to pastas and salads. As locals and tourists alike frequent this restaurant for it's bubbly atmosphere, friendly service and tasty food, expect to wait upstairs at the bar before dining. Live bands play on the weekends.

This contemporary restaurant located in the Negen Straatjes of the Jordaan is a gem for those looking for fresh and quality cooking in a comfortable and trendy little restaurant. Each dish is creative and made with the freshest ingredients. At lunch time a wider selection of sandwiches and simple meals make up the menu. Stop in for coffee or lunch while enjoying the shopping or come back for dinner at this trendy Amsterdam hotspot. -Rachel Hanson
