Aran Pub

Modern Irish Flair
Max Euweplein 73
Amsterdam, NH 1071
Netherlands
+31 20 422 2897
http://www.aranpub.com/
For a laid-back bar atmosphere in the heart of Amsterdam, check out Aran Pub, one of the newer additions to the city's Irish pub scene. You can enjoy nice weather outside on the terrace overlooking Vondelpark, or step indoors and chat with the bartender over a pint of Guinness. The expansive space and outdoor seating allow for large numbers of diners, making this a great place to meet and greet with fellow patrons. In addition to the variety of drinks available, the pub also serves a range of dishes, such as soups, fish n' chips, sandwiches, omelettes, and much more.

Cafe 't Smalle

Eat, Drink and be Merry
12 Egelantiersgracht
Amsterdam, NH 1015
Netherlands
+31 20 344 4560
This charming cafe in the De Jordaan district offers a wide range of drinks and food in a comfortable setting. The interior is dark and roomy (by Amsterdam's standards), with several tables and bar stools arranged on a checkered floor. There is also space on a floating platform outside that is ideal during nice weather. In addition to the wide selection of beers, wines, coffees, and teas, the cafe has a full menu of snacks. You can choose from soups, salads, sandwiches, or tapas-style plates to go with your drink.

De Taart van mijn Tante

Pretty Tasty
Ferdinand Bolstraat 10
Amsterdam 1072 LJ
Netherlands
+31 20 7764600
http://www.detaart.com/
This place is famous for incredible-looking cakes that taste heavenly. With two highly creative men behind the concept, some cakes look like they belong in a museum. And they do! Several museums in the Netherlands have exhibited these pastry-wonders that seem to come straight from the Madhatter's Tea Party. You can visit the beautiful patisserie in trendy neighborhood De Pijp and enjoy one of the numerous tastees. The interior suits the servings: everything is colorful, kitsch, retro and there is lots and lots of pink. This place is sweet and a must-visit for anyone who would like to enjoy a sugar-high in Amsterdam. -Sandy Hayes

Eetcafé Loetje

Focus on food
Johannes Vermeerstraat 52
Amsterdam 1071 DM
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 662 8173
Loetje, a favorite of the locals, offers steak, fillet and fries. Try the popular Sate, based in peanut sauce. Service doesn't get any points and definitely needs to be upgraded. Food served is however delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is casual and you can take your kids and pets too. The al fresco seating is ideal during the summers. And you may even dine alone here because this is one venue where you can expect nothing more than just tasty food.

A historical trip
Nieuwmarkt 4
Amsterdam 1012 CR

The name befits the location: a trip to "In de Waag" will find you within the walls of the city's oldest building, at the bustling city center. Built in 1488, the structure's design and décor takes one back to its glory days. Careful preservation and embellishment with candles and mood lighting give the interiors a warm, romantic and classy ambiance.

KinderKookKafé

Prepare a delicious meal for your parents
Vondelpark 6b (Overto
Amsterdam 1071 AA
Netherlands
+34 (0)20 625 3257
http://www.kinderkookkafe.nl
This small restaurant is run entirely by children: they cook, serve, bring the bill and wash up, all with a little help from the friendly grown-up staff, of course. The simple set menu includes main course and dessert: ingredients are fresh, the food is healthy and prices are very low. On Saturdays and Sundays children can even cook for their own guests. From 3:30p onwards on Saturdays, kids between the ages of six and 12 can prepare dinner; on Sundays over five can prepare and serve an English style high tea.
