Expensive French cuisine in Amsterdam-South
Cornelis Krusemanstraat 15
Amsterdam 1075 NB
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 679 0877
Aujourd'hui is located in a monumental corner house just a bit outside the city centre, near the Vondelpark. This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is of excellent quality, the interior is beautiful and the staff prove knowledgeable and friendly. Outside dining is available, weather permitting. Prices are not cheap, but are fair for the quality of food and service.

In the summer, Beems has a large terrace, making it the perfect central lunch destination. The kitchen is open until 9:30p, so dinner is also a possibility. A three-course menu is offered here, but items may also be ordered à la carte. A small menu featuring lighter, lunch-type dishes is available until 5pm. The food served here is of high quality; there is also a delicatessen on premises.

Watertorenplein 6
Amsterdam 1051 PA
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 682 2666
http://www.caferestaurantamste...
At this popular local restaurant, guests enjoy a traditional French/Belgian meal in one of the nicest historical industrial buildings in Netherlands. The building was once a water pumping station and the wonderful but simple atmosphere is enhanced by 22 original floodlights from the old Ajax and Olympic stadiums, both legendary soccer stadiums. The food is straightforward but very good, whilst prices remain relatively low. Salads, oysters, fish, soups and steaks all feature on the menu. The wine list comprises a thoughtfully selected cluster of (mostly French) wines. As this is a popular dining spot, it is advisable to reserve a table.

After a romantic boat ride along the Amstel River, halt at Chez Georges for a quiet continental dinner. This small but charming restaurant serves up an appetizing Belgian fare. The interiors have a classic influence complemented with mirrors and attractive wallpapers and dim lighting. Be prepared to order a whole seven course meal because, once you start there's no stopping. You can choose the gourmet menu or opt for the a la carte. The special treat comes with a steep price. So be prepared to shell out quite an amount. Go ahead and feast the Belgian way!

For the gourmet whose wallet matches his appetite, Christophe is one of the few restaurants in Amsterdam with a Michelin star. You will find a quiet setting of dark wood and thick carpets; an excellent choice for a romantic evening. Owner Christophe Royer makes himself available to discuss the menu. The restaurant was awarded the Michelin star for its inspired cooking, adding innovation to Mediterranean staples like basil, olive oil and saffron to create temptations like White Asparagus with oysters, and Roasted Rabbit. Private dining is available. See website for menu, philosophy and more.

Expensive French restaurant in Okura Hotel
Ferdinand Bolstraat 333
Amsterdam 1072 LH
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 678 7450
http://www.okura.nl/index2.php...
This respected restaurant (ranked in the Dutch top 50) is to be found on the 23rd floor of the Okura Hotel, located in the immediate vicinity of Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Concertgebouw. From this floor, you will have an unbelievable view over the city of Amsterdam and its surrounding area. The cuisine is cosmopolitan French, but once in a while you can discover some Oriental or seasonal influences. The service is good and formal. Prices are, rather predictably, very high but you do get dishes of a superb quality.

This lovely French restaurant is hidden away in the Reestraat. It's a nice and intimate place that comes with a small bar where you can have a drink before you move into the Art Deco restaurant. This French restaurant with a pinch from all over, offers some interesting combinations on the menu, with a lot of attention to game. They import their own wines from the Sancerre in France, after which the restaurant is named, and it's all very classy.

It boasts an excellent Burgundian menu (veal sweetbreads, dates stuffed with goose liver) and a fabulous wine selection, all fairly affordable. This restaurant has been standing tall since 1898, and its walls have seen many a lacy gown and tailcoats swishing by—historical trivia dictates that the name De Kroon, which means 'the crown' in Dutch was inspired after the crowning of Queen Wilhelmina in Amsterdam! A touch of elegance lingers in the exotic decor, which boasts of an English library bar. It primarily serves French cuisine. But if you are the kind who wants to let loose and get groovy, then DJ Raymond has the right zing to get you moving. De Kroon also plays host to cocktail parties, receptions and festivals. Head to the Amsterdam-Zuid area for some fresh and delicious seafood, tempered with the flavors of France and the Mediterranean. Spacious, airy and equipped with outdoor seating arrangements, Visaandeschelde is a local favorite. Dig into dishes like bouillabaisse, sashimi, crispy squid, poached egg with wild salmon, shellfish on ice and lots more. The chef's menu of 3, 4 and 5 course meals makes the selection process a little easier.

Opened in 1984, Walem is well-known for its contemporary style and classy look. The new age decor exudes a lot of attitude, and thus is frequented by the Amsterdam elite. There are two terraces, one overlooking a garden and another right beside the canal. So you have many seats to choose from, if you want to dine patio style. The classic Mediterranean menu, the fashionable ambiance and the friendly, enthusiastic wait staff make your visit worthwhile.

Zuidlande

Exclusive French cuisine
Utrechtsedwarsstraat 141
Amsterdam 1017 WE
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 620 7393
Chef Arend Niebor oversees this restaurant's French cuisine with loving dedication. The dishes are always exquisitely prepared, and include various takes on delicacies such as goose liver, caviar, truffles and duck breast. The wine list includes around 100 different vintages, and a sommelier will happily assist you. For dessert there are more extraordinary choices of sweets and pastries and of course, there is an extensive selection of cheeses. You can also dine on the sidewalk among pleasant flowers, watching the passersby.
