This brasserie is located near the cultural centre of Amsterdam. The focus here is definitely on fish and seafood. Bark stands out from other nearby restaurants because it is open late until midnight. The interior was recently redesigned and now has an open kitchen, where guests are welcome to have a look around. Much of the clientele here are concert-goers from Museum Square. Being situated in a very important cultural part of Amsterdam, many of Bark's customers are visitors to the multitude of museums in the surrounding area. This is a lively restaurant, which combines a culinary experience with a dynamic atmosphere. It is also one of a group of restaurants known for their excellent customer service. Fish and seafood of all sorts are the specialities here: anything from tuna to shark to crab and dorado can be found on the regularly updated menu.

Housed in a heritage building, The College Hotel Restaurant was formerly a school resembling the nearby Rijks Museum. Here, the dining experience is marked with class. Aromas of cinnamon, anise, nutmeg and pepper waft around the interestingly designed presentations. With a hint of traditional Dutch taste, the food is delicious and contemporary. This diner at College Hotel (The) is open daily for breakfast and serves lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday.

Dèsa offers everything one might expect from an Indonesian restaurant. This 125-seat space serves selected Indonesian dishes cooked in the original style. Guests can enjoy a typical Indonesian "rice-table", which offers all kinds of different dishes from the former Dutch colony. The restaurant is also very well-suited to vegetarians, offering also a vegetarian "rice-table". All dishes are also available à la carte. Particularly noteworthy is the Ayam Goreng Kuning: Marinated Fried Chicken.

Eetcafé Loetje

Focus on food
Johannes Vermeerstraat 52
Amsterdam 1071 DM
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 662 8173
Loetje, a favorite of the locals, offers steak, fillet and fries. Try the popular Sate, based in peanut sauce. Service doesn't get any points and definitely needs to be upgraded. Food served is however delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is casual and you can take your kids and pets too. The al fresco seating is ideal during the summers. And you may even dine alone here because this is one venue where you can expect nothing more than just tasty food.

Restaurant Le Garage is named after the function of the building in the Fifties. The modern restaurant is owned by television star and Crazy Cook Joop Braakhekke. This is a very stylish and glossy restaurant. It serves an extensive menu and a delicious three-course dinner for a set price whilst light meals are cooked with great relish. Both the food and the interior have succumbed to French influences. You will find here professional waiting-staff and a lot of velvet, sofas, paintings, and mirrors!

In order to dine in elegance, step into the mansion. The ornate interiors are complemented by dim lighting. The French windows allow day light to stream in, giving a very refreshing feel. The two main dining halls are situated adjacent to the private room. Take up a comfortable seat and wait for a truly authentic Chinese dinner to be served up. The chefs have been flown in all the way from Hong Kong for the same reason. There are cocktail bars for you to go up to and sip on your favorite drink. A DJ sets the place rocking on Fridays and Saturdays.

Amsterdam 1071 AR
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 673 1673
http://www.renzos.nl/

Renzo's is a Mediterranean culinary temple - the place to be if you're looking for tasty Italian, Greek and Spanish foods such as fresh pasta, pies, salad, bread, tapas, risotto, tiramisu, cheeses and meats. This establishment also trades as a food wholesaler, retailer, and preparation center and runs its own restaurant across the way. Although some might even argue that it's a restaurant with an adjacent shop! The warm Italian cooking aromas which pervade attract many a passer-by. The home-made pasta is delicious and their pies and quiches are created from Greek, Spanish and Italian grandmothers' recipes. The filling chocolate cake is definitely something not to be missed! In short, real food, real taste and fresh ingredients form the basis of their philosophy.

Sal Gorda

Almost as Spanish as Spain
Van Breestraat 107a
Amsterdam 1071 ZJ
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 673 0877
If you've ever been to Gaudi's park in Barcelona, you may find the interior of this restaurant slightly familiar. There are brightly colored walls, tiled floors, mosaic paneling, quirky chairs and rustic tables. Their delicious tapas include pata negra and a good selection of seafood and vegetarian options. Wash down your tapas with refreshing sangria or wine. Perfect for a family lunch or a dinner with friends, but make sure you're not pressed for time.

Sama Sebo

Great Indonesian dining
Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat 27
Amsterdam 1071 BL
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 662 8146
http://www.samasebo.nl/
Good Indonesian cuisine outside of Indonesia is hard to find, but at this prime restaurant, you won't walk away disappointed. The chef is famous for his delicious rice dishes, and a master at everything else. Try the traditional Daging Rending (beef in spicy coconut sauce), which is probably the best in town. The refreshing tropical desserts nicely clear the palate. There is a small terrace for open-air dining when the weather is fine. For shopaholics, the restaurant is located on the beautiful P.C. Hoofstraat shopping street.

Right in the centre of Vondelpark, lies the Dutch Film Museum. Directly underneath this museum, you'll find Vertigo, named after Alfred Hitchcock's classic. The restaurant offers a wide variety of drinks and meals based on seasonal and film influences and ranging from varied daily specialities to traditional dinners. Wooden tables and the lighting create a cosy atmosphere, whilst constantly changing projections on the walls make Vertigo's decor unique. The pricing is competitive, the cuisine international. Breakfast is served from 11am and it is also possible to have lunch here. It is particularly pleasant to dine here in the summertime.

Zabar's

Savoury Mediterranean cuisine
Van Baerlestraat 49
Amsterdam 1071 AP
Netherlands
+31 (0)20 679 8888
http://www.zabars.nl/
info@entrecote-et-les-dames.nl
At Zabar's, not only the menu but also the interior design borrow keynotes of Mediterranean style. The restaurant also boasts a very sunny atmosphere. It is located close to many a famous tourist attraction such as the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Concertgebouw. Zabar's offers a rather limited menu, but the food is delicious and prices are quite low. The variation on the wine list is not vast, but some nice wine is available. If you order wine you will only pay according to what you drink, as it is sold by measurement.
