Surinamese/Chinese restaurant and shop |
Albert Cuypstraat 69 Amsterdam 1072 CN Netherlands +31 (0)20 675 5135 |
In the heart of De Pijp, on Ceintuurbaan, you'll find the Chinese-Surinamese restaurant Albina. This is the friendliest, most delicious roti shop in Amsterdam and offers excellent quality for the prices. This is a very popular spot amongst locals. The restaurant reminds one of a snack bar, but the Surinam food makes Albina well worth a visit. Be sure to try the Black Pudding! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Steak Paradise |
Leidekruisstraat 7 Amsterdam, NH 1017 RE Netherlands +31 20 622 3375 http://www.losargentinos.nl |
The Dutch have always had a thing for Argentinean cuisine and Los Argentinos is a commendable addition to that. Saying that the steaks here are good is stating the obvious. Apart from steaks there are lip-smacking cutlets, fries, meat and veggies in sour cream, garlic and tomato based sauces. The sea-food lovers can have a field day as well, what with lobsters, shrimps, salmon all dolled up to perfection. The cold salads are perfectly sour and creamy with lots of dressing thrown in good measure. The ambiance is warm, cozy and comforting with touches of South American architecture(the famed brick walls) and furnishings. You can enjoy your steaks with live music here on weekends. It can't get better than this, can it? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Peruvian Food |
Leidsegracht 68 Amsterdam 1016 CP Netherlands +31 (0)20 620 3749 http://www.casaperu.nl |
Restaurant Casa Perú is the first and, so far, only Peruvian restaurant in the Netherlands. It's established in a monumental building in the heart of Amsterdam, in which guests are treated to South American hospitality in a cosy, informal atmosphere. In Casa Perú, an extensive menu (with 76 dishes!) provides an overview of the variety of Peruvian cuisine—warm and cold dishes (such as the famous fish dish Ceviche De Pescado, home-made stews with beef and goat, stewed and baked seafood, some vegetarian dishes, chicken and fish and typical Peruvian cocktails (such as Pico Sour andChuchuhuasi). Steakhouse with a splendid view |
Oudebrugsteeg 16 Amsterdam, NH 1012 JP Netherlands +31 20 626 1259 |
Located on the second floor of a monumental premises, Evita is your classic steakhouse albeit with a sophisticated ambiance. The eclectic eatery borrows heavily from the South American and Spanish cuisine and consistently innovates on its gourmet delights. The assortment of charcoal grilled meat is delectable and so are the crunchy salads and the sinful desserts. The beef pepper steak is a hot favorite and the barbecued chicken gives it a tough fight. But the real puller here is the panoramic view of the city at night. Amongst the dime a dozen steakhouses mushrooming all over Amsterdam, Evita stands out for more reasons than one. Brazilian/Argentinian restaurant serving great meat |
Prinsengracht 703 Amsterdam 1017 JV Netherlands +31 (0)20 420 3910 |
This Brazilian/Argentinean steakhouse is definitely one for the carnivores among us. Iguazu offers a fine selection of traditional Brazilian and Argentinian dishes. A variety of fish dishes are available as well, along with a few respectable salads, but this is a typical South American restaurant: meat is definitely the specialty. Iguazu has a special tourist menu as well as surprise menus that are updated regularly-but don't take these as indicators of a lower-class restaurant. It's actually quite cozy and the meat is top-of-the-range. Sometimes you can even enjoy some live Latin music. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional South American fare |
Paleisstraat 21 Amsterdam, NH 1012 RB Netherlands +31 20 620 0153 |
It is not very difficult to spot La Pampa on Dam Square; the eatery with hordes of people waiting expectantly for their steaks is your destination. Blending authentic ingredients and charcoal-grill cooking, the restaurant brings the best of South American cuisine to Amsterdam. The barbecued ribs and steaks are chunky, well-cooked and juicy; they all come with salad and chips as side dishes. For the sea-food lovers, there's a whole assortment of fresh and delectable fish preparations. The prices are modest and the portions, generous. The decor is minimalist but comfortable nevertheless. Go on this South American culinary sojourn and you shall not regret it. Review © 2007, Wcities |
