Intimate enjoyment in a small pub |
Plantage Parklaan 10 Amsterdam 1018 ST Netherlands +31 (0)20 625 4721 http://www.bamboeseur.nl |
The Bamboeseur is a small, cosy bar-bodega offering the normal range of drinks, snacks and lunches. Evenings, the mezzanine is turned into a small restaurant with a limited European menu of daily vegetarian and non-vegetarion specials. The clientele is mainly under average of age, the CD-player often produces rather loud modern music, the ambiance is mainly jovial and merry. The service at the 10-stool bar is mostly female, friendly and correct. And yes there is Heineken on draught. Review © 2007, Wcities |

An agreeable drink and dinner in a former custom-house |
Cruquiusweg 3 Amsterdam 1019 AT Netherlands +31 (0)20 693 3299 http://www.boulevardcafe.nl/ info@boulevardcafe.nl |
The exterior has not been changed since this custom-house was built in 1901. Inside the ambiance is also being helped by the very high original steel rafters. At the 10-stool bar one is served by friendly people of both sexes, who also serve luncheon and dinner in this roomy place with a glazed veranda, a small raised platform where live music is played at times and a storey-high mezzanine perfectly fit for more private parties, or a rendezvous dinner with an old or new love. Every month a new special beer is introduced, Flemish or Dutch, sometimes from the IJ-brewery nearby. For lunch there are sandwiches and rolls, soup of the day. A blackboard shows the specials of the day. The à la carte menu has a broad choice of first courses, meat and fish dishes, vegetarian food and desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Typically Dutch |
Plantage Middenlaan 22 Amsterdam 1018 DE Netherlands +31 (0)20 622 5716 http://www.eikenlinde.nl/ |
A very old and queer place is the restaurant Eik en Linde. It's a typical Dutch 'brown' bar and its history dates back to 1858. It has photos and murals on the walls, which tell you various stories and take you back to the past. Food is quite nice and filling, and rest assured, it's easy on your pocket. The staff can be of help if you need them. When it's time to leave, try to look at your own watch as the clock behind can be very confusing, it runs backwards! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Relaxed eatery |
Linnaeusstraat 11 Amsterdam 1093 VD Netherlands +31 (0)20 665 0743 |
The restaurant has a very typical essence of the East - from its cane furniture, high windows, yellowish walls to huge elephants painted behind the bar. It's a very chirpy and comfortable place as lots of light flows right through the windows. Food is palatable but not really the best you would find in the region and the staff is pretty affable and helpful. It has an outdoor seating arrangement with a pretty view but during the winter it is quite impossible to sit outside. The crowd that pours in is a mix of tourists, students and locals, especially those who visit the nearby museum. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Spanish restaurant near Artis Zoo |
Kadijksplein 16 Amsterdam 1018 AC Netherlands +31 (0)20 623 6313 |
Opposite the Scheepvaartmuseum and new Metropolis is the Kadijksplein, one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam. On this square stands Iberia, a unique restaurant serving delicious Spanish and Portuguese cuisine. Specialities include fish, meat and rice dishes. The restaurant spans different levels and a number of dining rooms. Iberia has a lovely cellar with the famous Sherry Bodega as a feature. The walls of the restaurant are covered with plates and pictures of a whole host of Spanish artists. On one of the plates it says Lo mejor de esta casa son los clients, meaning The best thing about this house is its clients. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eating and drinking on the water |
Borneosteiger 1 Amsterdam 1019 KM Netherlands +31 (0)20 418 9690 http://www.jaaphannis.nl/ info@jaaphannis.nl |
Jaap Hannis café-restaurant is situated on an artificial island in one of the many side-canals of the Eastern harbour area. The interior is simple, but attractive and the service is friendly en prfessioneel. The large terraces are visited by passersby in all types of boats next to the more pedestrian folk arriving by car or bike. The establishment owns a number of boats of varying size and organises sailing parties and dinners for 10 to 40 people. The normal Dutch lunch dishes are rolls, soup and tapas, of course. The kitchen is European with meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Next to this extensive menu there are the day's specialities. The choice in tapas served has recently been enlarged. Taste of Africa |
Rapenburgerplein 6 Amsterdam 1011 VB Netherlands +31 (0)20 622 3485 http://www.restaurantkilimanja... |
In the cold environs of Amsterdam, step into this African paradise. Kilimanjaro is known for its great pan-African cuisine, including traditional and contemporary dishes. Unleash your animal side with exotic fare like Crocodile Steak or Antelope Goulash. Vegetarians have no fear; they serve vegetarian dishes, best eaten with your hands of course! You can wash it all down with unique drinks like banana beer, or a variety of yummy cocktails. If the menu gets too confusing, just let the staff set up the best meal for you. In warmer weather, enjoy your food on the cool summer patio. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gourmet Delights of Two Continents |
Plantage Kerklaan 19 Amsterdam, NH 1018 SZ Netherlands +31 20 622 2129 http://www.pastavilla.nl |
Italian and Turkish cuisine greet each other on the menu of this tavern like restaurant serving delicious pastas, pizzas and Turkish fillets. The kebabs and spicy lamp whipped up in traditional Middle Eastern style are quite a treat. The first-timers to Pasta Villa Pizzeria will swear a lifelong commitment to the eatery once they dig into the Guvec(a mixture of lamb's meat, egg-plant, onion, pepper, potatoes and garlic). The spaghetti, macaroni and ravioli are thick, creamy and saucy. Go easy on it because there's more in the offing, there are Turkish pizzas(Sultan does full justice to its name). You can also try the ones with spicy Turkish sausages. Wrap up with a Tiramisu or Dame Blanche. The only trouble is, carrying yourself back home. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mod food in a trendy environment |
Plantage Kerklaan 61a Amsterdam 1018 CX Netherlands +31 (0)20 330 9469 http://www.diningcity.nl/planc... info@restaurantplancius.nl |
Having thrown open its doors to the public in early 2000, this relatively new eatery is a welcome addition to the Plantation / Annex Museum of The Resistance (WWII) in the beautifully renovated old Plancius building opposite Artis zoo. Its dual nature caters to all, for it is a pub during the day and a restaurant after 6p. A tad pretentious for the menu, this spot mainly attracts young professionals and well-to-do pensioners who appreciate the value of a good kitchen. An excellent service leaves no room for complaint. Old Pub Made New |
Kadijksplein 10 Amsterdam, NH 1018 AC Netherlands +31 20 622 4034 |
During renovations of the old houses on this square, owner Nelis also decided to change the interiors of this old billiards house and added a new pool table. It took some time before the regulars could feel at ease again at this place. Though much effort were made to maintain the shabby look of Pleinzicht, the place nevertheless looks bright and clean now. But apart from that, nothing has changed. The well drawn beer is still available at a reasonable price, as well as the Heineken on drought and the usual snacks. Review © 2007, Wcities |
