This popular fusion restaurant is a relatively new addition to Amsterdam's eateries, having opened in 1998. Just to prove its commitment to the fusion principle, even the interior is a mishmash of new and old, blended together nicely to create a memorable dining experience. The menu combines Eastern and Western influences to good effect and this restaurant is billed as Demi-veg, which indicates a concentration on fish and vegetarian dishes. Add to this a nice wine list, and the final result is a restaurant well worth visiting. Fusion isn't for everybody, but you'll never know unless you try it.

Both the interior and the cuisine are reflections of the rich Indonesian culinary tradition. The original sate platters are excellent, with five different ones available. Main courses include various red meat, chicken, egg, fish or vegetable dishes as well as the traditional nasi or bami dishes. Particularly noteworthy are their rice-tables.

The vegetarian restaurant De Waaghals is one such place. The restaurant is also used as a gallery and artists exhibit their work here. The interior changes from time to time and the fun part is that the menus are linked with the exhibitions. The Waaghals likes to serve veggie fusion: no meat, just vegetables, prepared in very special and always delicious ways.
