Amsterdam's largest department store |
Dam 1 Amsterdam 1012 JS +31 (0)20 552 1700 http://www.bijenkorf.nl |
De Bijenkorf (the Beehive) is Amsterdam's largest department store and can be compared with Harrods in London and KDW in Berlin. Situated in the heart of the city, it offers a variety of merchandise, including quality clothing by international designer labels, cosmetics, furniture, toys, jewellery, shoes, CDs, books, delicatessen goods, gifts, kitchen appliances and more. Although it cannot be considered cheap, every shopper will find something of interest in this great-looking department store. De Bijenkorf also provides such advantages as tax-free shopping, a cloakroom, an ATM machine, a parking garage and various restaurants. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Attractive shopping in the city |
Singel 457 Amsterdam 1012 WP +31 (0)20 427 3901 http://www.kalvertoren.nl info@burotoob.nl |
The Kalvertoren is located in the heart of the city, on Amsterdam's most commercial street, the Kalverstraat. However, its address is not actually the Kalverstraat as such, as this shopping centre has multiple entrances. In 1998, the shopping centre tower won the prestigious annual European Shopping Centre Award that is presented by the ICSC, the International Council of Shopping Centres. There are more than thirty exclusive stores here, spread over three floors, for instance Mango, DKNY, Timberland, Hugo Boss, Levi's, Kipling and Replay. The big glass and steel tower has a staircase, an escalator and a glass lift, ferrying customers to the top. There, you will have an amazing view of Amsterdam's inner city. Besides many exclusive shops, it is also home to two department stores, various cafes and a nice restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fabulous shopping centre |
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 182 Amsterdam 1012 SJ +31 (0)20 626 9199 http://www.magnaplaza.nl/ |
Magna Plaza is situated behind the Koninklijk Paleis on Dam square. This former main post office, built in neo-Gothic style according to a design by C.H. Peters in 1898, would feel at home in a fairytale. Inside, it has a large dome-shaped top, beautiful colonnades and decorated sculptures. Because of its interior, facade and historical value, it belongs to the top 100 buildings on the National Heritage list. There are more than forty exclusive shops and two restaurants. The atmosphere in Magna Plaza can be characterised as unique and relaxed. Worth mentioning separately—the small cheese and delicacatessen shop on the ground floor, the shoe shiner and the classical music sometimes played live at the weekends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exclusive department store |
Rokin 140-142 Amsterdam 1012 LE +31 (0)20 531 3400 http://www.maisondebonneterie.nl |
Maison de Bonneterie first opened its doors in 1889. It has the ambiance of a luxurious Parisian store and is located in the centre of the city in a remarkable building. The traditional interior has been maintained throughout the years. You will find men's and women's clothing of the highest quality here for both young and old, shoes, household goods and accessories. Besides this there are a number of shops within the shop at Maison de Bonneterie, such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Nautica concessions on the ground floor. On the first floor there is a Grand Café and on the second floor a golf shop, a Hair and Beauty Centre and a children's department can be found. Both the clientele and the atmosphere are a for the most part conservative-looking and prices are relatively high, as the products sold here are top quality. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Famous British department store |
Leidsestraat 34-36 Amsterdam 1017 PB +31 (0)20 520 7020 http://www.metzenco.nl/ Office@metz-co.nl |
The department store Metz & Co was founded in 1891 and is nowadays the property of Liberty's of London. Located in the busy shopping street the Leidsestraat, Metz & Co offers a broad range of goods. It is a great place to go if you are looking for high quality or unique gifts. You can buy gimmicks, beautiful glassware, exclusive clothing and various pots, pans and kitchen utensils here. The latter you can find in the basement. If you decide to pop in, be sure to visit the upper floor. The view from this top floor is magnificent - customers can enjoy a great view of the canals, roofs and gardens of the inner city buildings and can see quite a long way into the distance, especially on a clear day. A pleasant complement to such a view might be a cappuccino and/or a light meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |
