Established in the 60s, the same family still operates this local steakhouse. The signature four-inch thick 14-ounce filet mignon, established the "fine steakhouse" reputation. Other entree options include the 16-ounce New York steak, 16-ounce Prime Rib; as well as appetizers like steamer clams and Cajun mushrooms. A real Alaskan experience, this restaurant has scads of memorabilia on its walls and in displays. President Carter and the first lady once ate here while passing through Anchorage. Award-winning Thai Kitchen was the first Thai restaurant in Anchorage, and its appeal is apparent by the restaurant's popularity. Eclectic and almost Spartan, the dining room has small tables and few frills. The huge Thai Platter provides a great way to try a mix of appetizers. Try the outstanding garlic chicken has many toasted bits of garlic topping the dish. Note: While the food and price is sure to please, the service is typically disorganized. "Appetizer" does not necessarily mean pre-entree here.

This restaurant has received high praise since its opening. In an established restaurant location, it has been completely remodeled with comfortable booths and a wall-length aquarium. Appetizers and fresh salads focus on perfectly chosen fresh vegetables and are enhanced by light citrus dressings and sesame or peanut batters. The sushi bar offers an artistic chef who creates (among other items) a sushi entree made of eel, crab, salmon and tuna. Sashimi and teriyaki plates tempt those not seeking raw fish.

For a reasonable amount at lunch, take a bowl and fill it with any ingredients you want (from a large salad bar-style arrangement of meats and vegetables) and then hand it over to the chef for his performance. Watch as he sautes your items with special sauces and then throws them into the air and catches them back in the bowl. Choose the Chinese buffet for the same price, if you prefer; both include a salad bar. Dinner is similar, offering a larger bowl and additional ingredients.
