Surprises by Raoul |
Vlasmarkt 21 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 213 0977 |
Chef Raoul Wuytack has received acclaim for his culinary work at the very well known Gulden Greffoen. The stonewalls and wooden furniture create a cozy atmosphere. When the weather permits, meals can be enjoyed on the terrace. The menu changes weekly, so dinner is always a pleasant, delicious surprise. Recommended dishes include the Baked Goose-liver with pear and port sauce, or the Paling in't Groen (eel in parsley sauce). You can even specially order your favorites 24 hours in advance! Citizens of Antwerp knows that the South is where the new and trendy restaurants can be found. Testament to this statement is Cargo, which is a stylish restaurant situated opposite the Museum for Fine Arts. Unlike many other restaurants, all types of meals are served here. A hearty breakfast and a quick lunch service are added pluses. The open kitchen in Cargo offers its customers the pleasure of watching the chef busy at work on creative dishes with a distinct Mediterranean taste. Add to all this the mood of a Parisian bistro and you have the ideal restaurant for anyone who wants to taste the unique ambiance of the South district. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beautiful ceiling |
Komedieplaats 18 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 224 8813 |
This restaurant is located on the first floor of the Bourla theatre, an historic building from 1834. In 1993, the whole building was restored and refurbished in the original classical style, including magnificent ceiling paintings. The overall effect is breathtaking; it is no wonder that the inhabitants of Antwerp are proud of this grand building. This romantic brasserie serves salads at the salad bar, brunches and a three-course lunch buffet. You can also a simple light meal, a snack or just coffee and dessert while admiring the interiors. The service is fast and friendly and this only helps in making your visit memorable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Step-gabled eatery |
Graanmarkt 3 Antwerp 2000 Belgium http://www.resto.be/henri |
This restaurant is located in the neighborhood known by the locals as 'Little Paris.' This short stretch of the Graanmarkt and some of the streets around it are indeed reminiscent of the cafés and alleys in Paris. The interior here is sober with dark wooden tables and chairs, mirrors on the wall, a bar at the far end and a covered terrace in front of the restaurant. Smoked eel on toast is just one of the fine and authentic dishes that you should try here. In general, portions are generous and complete. Diners can order either a la carte or from the suggestion board. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cozy and snug |
Kelderstraat 3 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 232 1632 |
This café-and-restaurant is located near the famous Bourla Shouwburg. The establishment is divided in two parts, one part of it is a café and the other part is an upscale restaurant. The café is bathed in warm brown colors, and the restaurant features a black and gray color scheme. This is a popular meeting place for Flemish theatre lovers and celebrities. The food is excellent in both areas, but the restaurant is more stylish, and of course, more expensive. The specialties of the restaurant are spare ribs, shrimp croquettes and its "Menu Mama" fixed menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In an old brewery |
Vlaamsekaai 76 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 238 1240 |
In the south of Antwerp on the Vlaamsekaai you will find this special brasserie, which is located in what used to be a brewery. Inside, in the enormous modern dining area, you will see original copper kettles, which are still used for brewing a "house beer". The strongest beer is Nen Bangelijke (meaning 'What a scream') that has 9.5 per cent alcohol. The joint also offers a wide selection of dishes, some of which are prepared with beer. Try the Blond Beer Soup or the Sea Wolf with Antwerp Blond, you are sure to love them! Review © 2007, Wcities |
