Cafe & Soup Kitchen with Comfort |
Rodestraat 6 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 03 232 81 49 |
If you get homesick during your travels, a bowl of soup from ‘T Koemmeke Soep will cure your sorrows. Located on a residential street a few blocks away from the university, this soup kitchen feels more like cozy living room than restaurant. The philosophy of the caf is that soup is more than just a dish, but rather a reminder of simpler, quieter times- back when we were children in our grandmothers’ kitchens. As you sip your meal, enjoy the homey atmosphere and the company. The owners’ nine year-old granddaughter will be your waitress on her days off from school. Menu changes weekly. - Alex Phillips Review © 2007, Wcities |

This picturesque tearoom-restaurant is ideal for breakfast, lunch, snacks or dinner. The light-colored decoration leaves a warm and calm impression. In the splendid garden terrace you can relax in a green oasis and of course, enjoy some delicious food. From 11:30 o'clock in the morning, you can taste the oven-fresh sandwiches or tasty range eggs. At lunch time or in the evening, you can enjoy a nourishing soup, main dish or dessert. And, in the afternoon, it's coffee or tea time with great scones, sandwiches, tiramisu or apple pie. The menu also follows the new trends with exotic meat dishes such as Australian ostrich. The wine list includes South African wines. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Original breakfast, lunch and desserts |
Kasteelpleinstraat 49 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 226 1199 |
This eatery should be on the itinerary of each foodie passing through this city. The food here is of outstanding quality—impressing the patrons not only with taste but also with presentation. The interiors are a combination of a modern French brasserie and some high-tech design. There is a garden terrace at the back with Japanese highlights. The owners are friendly and offer newspapers to the guests to make them feel at ease. The house desserts are among the most creative in Antwerp. Try the Almond Tart with Smoked Bacon Caramel Sauce or one of its many more unusual sweets. The professional staff is always pleasant and help you make your visit memorable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Smoky café, great ambiance |
Vlaamse Kaai 42 Antwerp 2000 Belgium |
Sometimes nothing beats a smoky pub, and this cozy café delivers. The ambiance is a magnificent mixture of chatting students, pensive writers and card-playing old men. From morning to night, this bar is brimming with an eclectic mix of lives all hunched over a coffee or a beer. Hungry? Snacks are served as well. The decor is simple: wooden tables, wooden chairs, a wooden bar and tile floors. But, you don't come here for that. The people, the smoky atmosphere and the drink are all you need. Salad bar, shop and take-away |
Oude Beurs 12 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 233 88 45 |
If you walk from the Vleeshuis in the direction of the Grote Markt, you'll probably go down the Oude Beurs, an attractive street in the old part of the city, where you'll find a picturesque salad bar called Sjalot en Schanul (Shallot and Scallion). The Salad menu is pretty varied here. Try one with shrimps and avocados or pasta with tuna—all with fresh herbs of course. You can order to take away or you can also buy fresh vegetables in one part of the shop. Review © 2007, Wcities |
