Great food near the Scheldt |
Haarstraat 3 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 226 4927 |
Café de la Gare is a fine restaurant situated near the docks and the river Scheldt with lots of interesting sights in the area. It is more sophisticated than you would think, the chef really does his best to keep the mainly traditional Belgian dishes authentic. He buys the ingredients, especially the fish, from selected shops to ensure the dishes taste just as they should. You have a bird's—eye view of the impressive modern kitchen. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fish and lobster specialists |
Wiegstraat 7-9 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 231 4723 |
You'll find this fish and lobster restaurant in the Wiegstraat, the pedestrian precinct near the Boerentoren. It's right next to the Koperen Ketel. Candle1lit tables, the traditional Flemish high chairs, stained—glass windows and classical music contribute to the rustic and cozy mood here. La Cigogne (French for stork) is known for its lobster dishes, which can be adapted to the wishes of the customer. This is great if you happen to be a Montignac lover. On weekends you order à la carte or from a four— or six—course menu. There's a three—course menu during the week. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Young and trendy |
Hendrik Consienceplein 18 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 233 5931 |
During the warm weather in the summer, you can sit outside on the historical Concienceplein and watch the people walk by. This is a little gem in the old part of Antwerp. This South European-styled restaurant with sober interior and mezzanine is probably one of the most relaxed and easy-going eateries in Antwerp. The food is mainly Mediterranean with excellent salads, rich pastas, roast meats and mussels all at very acceptable prices and ideal for the whole family. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great food in lovely garden |
Mechelsesteenweg 76 Antwerp 2018 Belgium +32 3 238 5151 http://www.resto.be/greens |
This large 19th Century Patrician house with high ceilings, grand oak doors and wonderful wooden floors is a great place for business people. There are various dining areas: you can watch the chef cooking or choose a more intimate table if you feel romantic. The green patio is large enough for parties up to 100 people. The menu board with suggestions offers exquisite dishes (French cuisine) such as half a lobster belle vue or the terrine de foie gras. Taste one of the great wines and finish with a cigar (special card). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wonderful view and delightful dishes |
Handschoenmarkt 17-21 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 232 4014 http://www2.resto.be/indeschad... |
This restaurant is situated near the Cathedral, which has the highest spire in Belgium (128 meters) and a wonderful view of the city. Its beautiful decor with a splendid chandelier, wooden paneling, cozy lights and old prints takes you back to the famous past of Antwerp. The specialty of the house is the Grande Bouillabaisse, but you can also try the mussels, tongue, oysters, lobster or ox-fillet. Hosts Tony, Erly and Nico all learned their trade on the cruise ship Fabiolaville. They like to turn their dishes into artistic masterpieces. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Famous venue for mussels |
Suikerrui 4 Antwerp 2000 Belgium +32 3 233 0758 |
The most delicious mussels are prepared in Belgium, and this Antwerp restaurant just off the Scheldt has been serving them to celebrities like Liza Minelli, Grace Jones and Axl Rose for more than 40 years. Inside it's cozy and intimate, while on the pavement terrace you can enjoy your meal amidst the hustle and bustle of one of the liveliest streets in Antwerp. The mussel season begins mid—July, don't forget to make a reservation if you want to eat here in the evenings. Mussels really are a delicacy, but you should also try eel (another Belgian specialty), oysters or one of the meat dishes. The wine card has super vintages. Review © 2007, Wcities |
