Located on a residential street a few blocks away from the university, this soup kitchen feels more like cozy living room than restaurant. The philosophy of the caf� is that soup is more than just a dish, but rather a reminder of simpler, quieter times- back when we were children in our grandmothers’ kitchens. +32 3 237 6901 Brasseur (French for brewer or big shot) is situated near the Court of Justice on the wide avenue called Britselei (British Avenue). It is a member of the Einstein Club of selected museums and art galleries. In the morning it's the ideal place for a delicious breakfast with croissants or rolls and a cup of coffee or one of their many teas. The kitchen opens at midday and the menu offers a wide range of Mediterranean dishes, especially fish. This is a quiet place with excellent service. The interior is sober with some excellent paintings on the walls.

Stores are high end and commercial- but even the penny-wise shopper should take a peek. Every detail of structure has been restored to its original 1907 design, including gold-leaf stucco, impressive woodwork, and neoclassical sculpture. Shopping requires more than just a credit card here, your camera is a must have. - Alex Phillips
