This comprehensive museum of Atlanta's past is located a few blocks from the Governor's Mansion in residential Buckhead. Exhibits cover the gamut of the region's history, including special sections on the Civil War, Southern folk crafts, African-American history, and the Civil Rights movement. The museum is surrounded by 33 acres of gardens that feature the historic Swan House, the fully-restored Tullie Smith Farm, a library and archive, and several restaurants. The facility is home to the largest climbing gym in the Southeast, which features an expansive 'bouldering' area and a rotating climbing wall. Sponsors of the prestigious annual Thanksgiving Day Atlanta Marathon, this is the second largest running club in the country. The club's 11,000 members run the gamut from beginner to professional, and represent a wide range of abilities, interests and backgrounds.
