Annual Atlanta Marathon and Half-Marathon

Thanksgiving Morning Fun
Marathon: Turner Stadium
Half Marathon: Peachtree Rd
Atlanta, GA
United States
+1 404 231 9064
http://www.atlantatrackclub.org/
Presented every Thanksgiving, the Atlanta Marathon and Half-Marathon have quickly become the second largest races in Atlanta. The marathon (26.2 miles) starts outside Turner Field, and the half-marathon (13.1 miles) starts at Peachtree Road, north of the Clairmont intersection. A great volunteer staff and enthusiastic participants make these very fun, though also very competitive races, as well as cause for one of the liveliest parties in the city.

Mothball was first held in the early '80s. It takes place annually in September, and its date coincides with that of the Grant Park Tour of Homes. The biggest party of the neighborhood features dance, music, food, drinks, auction, and competitions like the Table Decorating Contest and the Ms. MothBall Pageant. The tent at the zoo is transformed into a night club, where the crowd dances to the tunes of popular DJs. Moreover, everything is in keeping with a particular theme, which changes from year to year—past celebrations have been based on Mardi Gras, Disco '70s, and a Hawaiian luau.

Atlanta is a genteel town steeped in tradition, and few local traditions can rival that of the Polo Club of Atlanta. While membership is expensive and somewhat exclusive, most Atlantans (and visitors) are satisfied to simply enjoy the refined spectacle of competitive matches, hosted every Sunday from June through October. Dress is casual and picnics are welcomed. Because of extreme summer heat, no matches are scheduled during the month of August.
