Brick Store Pub

Thirsty?
125 East Court Square
Atlanta, GA 30030
United States
+1 404 687 0990
http://www.brickstorepub.com/
This no-nonsense Decatur bar is a throwback to the days when speakeasies were for drinking. Handsome and simple, the Brick Store is comprised, not surprisingly, mostly of brick. The crowd varies, but expect to find at least a spattering of the legal denizens of the Dekalb County Courthouse just across the way. Featuring local and imported draughts, single malt scotches, small batch bourbons and fine wines, you won't be at a loss for drinking options. A relatively standard bar menu is offered for lunch and dinner at reasonable prices.

Cripple Creek Tap House

Rustic Dining
3525 Mall Blvd
Atlanta, GA 30096
United States
+1 770 497 4228
Looking like an old fishing lodge stuck in the middle of suburban Atlanta, this pub offers a comfortable atmosphere with a great menu to boot. Replete with outdoor gear and stuffed animal trophies, the ambiance makes one want to get a cup of cider and park by the fireplace, but there's food waiting. The chiefly American menu includes enormous hamburgers (the Bear Mountain Burger is one full pound of beef), great steaks and a few seafood offerings. The full bar offers a nice array of 38 regional and national micro brews.

Crystal's

Fun on the Square
150 Roswell Street
Atlanta, GA 30060
United States
+1 770 792 8840
http://www.crystalsonthesquare...
This small venue puts a trendy spin on the face of conservative Marietta. Facing the court buildings just east of the town square, Crystal's turns up the heat on the neighborhood nightlife. The small, unadorned bar is replete with bar stools, four tables, a tiny stage, and little else. Make that tiny stage your own on Tuesday nights, as Open Mic Night draws crowds beginning at 9p. A full bar is present, as well as some snack and sandwich options. Better dining options are well within walking distance, however.

(Buckhead Avenue)
Atlanta, GA 30305
United States

This is an upscale Irish pub with plenty of atmosphere. Opened in 1996, much of the furniture, masonry and decor were imported from Ireland. Fado even sells Irish collectibles and sponsors Atlanta's local Gaelic football team. The menu includes Irish Oak Smoked Salmon, Guinness Battered Fish and Chips, and the exotic chicken or salmon boxtys (stuffed potato pancakes). Irish breakfasts of eggs, sausage, rashers and black and white puddings are served all day. Plenty of Guinness and Harp sold on draft, as well as fine Irish whiskeys.

This is a casual, mid-priced, fun pub with neon retro signs you'll remember. For starters, try the "Original Anchor Bar" Buffalo Wings, and cool the fire with any one of 32 beers on tap. A full spectrum of 110 international bottled beers is also available. Seating operates on a wait list, so call before leaving your hotel to reserve a place in line. Be sure to try the Black Angus Burgers, and if weather permits, choose a seat on the patio for a sunset view of the Midtown skyline.

United States
+1 404 874 7147

If an Irish pub's your thing, pull up a stool at this popular rendition in the heart of the Virginia Highlands. Take your pick of English and Irish stouts, ales and lagers, or peruse the lengthy list of bottled fare. The selection of aged Scotches and uncommon whiskies is particularly impressive. The small stage, back-dropped by busy Highland Avenue, features live acoustic acts nightly, often accompanied by the high-spirited, if musically-challenged, patrons.

The Little Five Corner Tavern ends up being stylish just because of its location, one of the busiest spots in the neighborhood. The pub fare makes it easy to down several brews or cocktails during your stay, and there's both indoor and outdoor seating. As the night ripens, the bar packs in groups of people looking for a good time. With friendly service and a hip, interesting crowd, this tavern is worth going to.

City Hall's Watering Hole
602 North Highland Ave
Atlanta, GA 30307
United States
+1 404 525 3447
http://www.manuelstavern.com
Located a few blocks from the old City Hall, this traditional corner bar was known as the hub of Atlanta's political scuttlebutt for more than 50 years but is now a homier, neighborhood-type place. The row of cozy booths opposite the room-length bar is great spot to catch a pint and a Braves game. Several dining rooms set off from the bar make the place much more family friendly than in years past, and the kitchen serves up a surprisingly diverse grille menu. Try the grilled tuna steak with a side of slow-basted black beans. On many a saturday night, Manuel's patrons are treated to the comic stylings of Atlanta's oldest comedy troupe, Laughing Matters Improvisation.

The largest open-air seating area in the neighborhood is well serviced by a friendly staff and provides umbrella cover for bright days. Generous seating is also available inside, where the smoky tavern motif is set off nicely by a large fireplace in the back. 13 draft beers are always on tap, along with a nice selection of domestic and imported bottles. Liquor and a limited wine list are also available. The deli-quality sandwiches and wraps are cheap and filling, while a full appetizer menu and a few pasta dishes are also standard.

Rock Bottom Brewery

Yuppie Happy Hour Haven
3242 Peachtree Street
Atlanta, GA 30305

Fresh, hand-crafted beer and a diverse menu are the cornerstones of this relatively new entry onto the local brewpub scene. The Rock Bottom offers a warm, casual atmosphere for a pleasant meal, as well as one of the liveliest happy hours in Buckhead. The menu features hearty American offerings such as burgers and chops with interesting variations, while the beers run the gamut from pales to reds, browns, stouts and specialty ales. The restaurant is well situated to service most of Buckhead's upscale hotels at Piedmont and Peachtree streets.

Rose & Crown

Britain in Buckhead
288 East Paces Ferry Road
Atlanta, GA 30305
United States
+1 404 233 8168
As traditionally English as you are likely to find in the American South, Newcastle and Bass are the favorites at this Buckhead pub. A relatively docile crowd enjoys the passable menu and the large selection of British ales, and on pleasant afternoons forms a small line on the sidewalk, as patio space is at a premium. A darts and billiard room is hidden in the back for those who are more used to English weather and English pursuits.

(at Monroe Drive)
Atlanta, GA 30324
United States

Smith's is reminiscent of the old-time pubs that served double duty as drinking taverns and family gathering spots. The kitchen serves Southern comfort food in the traditional sense, which means mashed potatoes with gravy, ribs, chicken, veggies, fresh bread and decadent desserts. The no-nonsense servers are attentive and friendly, another Southern tradition. Smith's is known for its live music, which takes place later in the evening, often featuring local bands and even big-name rock groups looking for an intimate, friendly venue.

The company's impressive brewing and bottling facility also offers tours. While most people enjoy the interesting and informative tour, the most popular stop is the last, where guests are invited to partake of a sampling of recent batches. Check website for tour details.

The Brewhouse Cafe

Best Local Soccer Bar
401 Moreland Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30307
United States
+1 404 525 7799
http://www.brewhousecafe.com/
The Brewhouse Cafe distinguishes itself from other local sports bars with its specialty: soccer and rugby. The grub is good, and there's a wide selection of imported beers on tap and in the bottle, but it's the international sports broadcasting that makes the Brewhouse special to many of its patrons. The pub also allows dogs both inside and out on the patio, and if you're not riveted to the live sports action, it's a good place to people-watch.

English Pub Life
Nationalestraat 16
Atlanta, GA 2000

This quiet pub, tucked behind the more famous and crowded Buckhead establishments, offers an Americanized glimpse into English pub culture. Decorated with the requisite plaid carpet and wooden bar as well as several pictures of the Queen, the Arms is a longstanding local hangout in a land of fast bar turnover. Although purists may balk at the abundance of American spirits, there are at least two English ales on tap at all times, along with Guinness, of course. A popular trivia contest is held every Tuesday at 8p.
