Alon's Bakery

Alon's Bakery and Market
1394, North Highland Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30306
United States
+1 404 872-6000
http://www.alons.geomerx.com
Alon's Bakery is a small café in the popular Virginia/Highland area of Atlanta making artisan breads, European-style pastries and cookies daily. This place is "haute couture" for elegant cakes and "a must" destination for all "sweettooth" visitors of Atlanta. All pastries and cakes are excellent but some are to die for: Chocolate Raspberry Mousse, Frasier (fresh strawberries topped with a pistachio cream with layers of lady's fingers) or the Opera cake. Alon's is a fantastic spot for lunch as well, with tables situated both inside and out, one can enjoy soups and/or made-to-order sandwiches. Finish off the entire experience with an enjoyable coffee and heavenly desert. -Manana Khachidze

This terrific upscale cafe concept is a welcome addition to the Atlanta dining scene. Come for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a tasty pick-me-up. Patrons split themselves just about evenly between sit-down and take-out orders, but the dining area is pleasant, if also somewhat simply decorated. The restaurant offers hot entrees like quiches, pot pies, soups and designer pizzas in addition to delicious breads, pastries and desserts. The lunch soup menu is extensive, and the salads, sandwiches and fruit plates are popular.

This romantic spot is fashioned in the likeness of a rustic country cottage, and blends right in with the quiet neighborhood it inhabits. The menu includes eclectic European entrees. A predominantly French wine list is highlighted by some rare and unusually expensive offerings, and formal attire is recommended.

Barraza (formerly known as Tarraza) breaks the mold of the traditional coffeehouse by turning a cup of coffee into an event. This upscale coffeehouse employs a wait staff to serve your cup of joe. Set in fall colors of pumpkin, cranberry, and cinnamon, patrons sit on uniquely constructed chairs and lounge on cushioned seats. Too add even more ambience and atmosphere; local bands perform jazz on Thursdays and Fridays, while amateur comedians perform on Mondays. Try the Mexican Hot Chocolate made with semi-sweet chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, all imported from Mexico. For those who crave something strong, visit the inviting bar to the left.

Reminiscent of a Parisian cafe, this busy, well-appointed uptown bakery and cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Indoors or out, this little cafe has an air of sophistication without the traditional snobbery. The freshly prepared light meals are very French, light subtly-flavored basics that only a seasoned chef can prepare. Try salad with quiche, rosemary chicken or some excellent soup with a crispy warm baguette. The house table wine is light and crisp and yes, French. Open for breakfast, lunch, and light dinner daily, don't be surprised if Le Madeleine's becomes your favorite little corner cafe. Beer and wine only.

This warm brewery sits at the southeast corner of Piedmont Park, Atlanta's busiest public green. It is a favorite among dog lovers, and hitches are available along the patio to leash your pet while you dine. The decidedly tavern-like interior is dark and friendly, with a fireplace. Two bars offer limited seating, but the main attraction is the patio, which overlooks the Midtown skyline. Pastas, fish and a wide range of appetizers highlight the menu. The Tavern also brews its own line of beer, which ranges from light amber ales to full-bodied stouts.

Pasta Da Pulcinella

Worth the Wait
1123 Peachtree Street
Atlanta, GA 30309
United States

This often crowded restaurant does not provide much in the way of peaceful dining, but the Italian is some of the best in the city. Sometimes cozy, sometimes frantic, the dining room is decorated with traditional Italian items, and as the name suggests, clowns. Traditional Italian is the rage here, as well as some surprising twists, such as the special risottos and the wide variety of ravioli. You must wait in line to place your order, which can be tedious during peak hours, but the food is well worth it.

Atlanta, GA 30306
United States
+1 404 874 7828

This cafe is a good Midtown spot for a late-night coffee or an after-dinner drink. The warehouse ambiance comes into its full neglected glory here, with exposed pipes overhead and ragged tables to rest your elbows on. A few well-picked oil paintings line the walls for that extra artsy feel. A small stage near the door spotlights local musicians in styles ranging from folk to bluegrass to jazz. A limited menu is available, along with a full-service bar in the back. Great coffee and drinks are served, as well as some wine.

On other days, you need to make your reservations. What's more, the five course meal for USD65 will be tailored according to your taste and needless to say the exquisite wine will accompany it.
