Folk art and ice cream
1054 North Highland Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30306
United States
+1 404 815 9970
This rustic shop in the Highlands displays some of the finest examples of primitive antiques and reproductions the South has to offer. You can also browse (and purchase) the works of well-known regional artists, mostly in the folk art style. Be sure to take a stroll through the store's garden department, where you're bound to find something that you simply must have, from birdhouses and fountains to angels, tire horse swings, whirly-gigs and lovely bunches of fresh flowers. At the very least, there's always the ice cream counter to peruse.

Comfort food far from home

Summer days are long and hot in Atlanta, which makes this Highlands shop very popular. In a neighborhood rich with great bars and restaurants but scarce on fast food, this is one of a very few options for ice cream. Dine in the small parlor or take your treat up to the rooftop deck. Uniquely blended and uniquely named frozen concoctions are the specialty here, with ice cream, yogurt and sorbet options aplenty. Ice cream sandwiches, milk shakes and sundaes are also available.

Paolo's Gelato

Decadent Dessert
1025 Virginia Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30306
United States
+1 404 607 0055
http://www.paolosgelato.com
This tiny storefront just off Highland Avenue brings a much-needed parlor to the trendy Highlands. There's not much to the place aside from a few tables, and most patrons take their Italian delights with them as they stroll the neighborhood. Italian ices, shakes, floats, and soft drinks are available, but the big seller is gelato. A few more extravagant creations are featured for the daring, including an ice-cream interpretation of fettuccine, which features custard ice cream with strawberry sauce and grated white chocolate. See website for a complete list of over 50 gelato flavors, catering details, clips of Paolo on the Food Network, gift certificates, an online gift shop, info on the Charleston location, and even a live in-store camera feed!
