When you see the giant tropical deck fringed with palm trees, you're in the right place. Opened in 1986 as a neighborhood restaurant, this fun tavern has expanded over the years into a 3,500-square-foot beach party, as well as one of Atlanta's most visited nightspots. Lunch and dinner options include chicken wings and burgers, and the place is known for its key lime pie. They do barbecue the old way at Anderson's, and it shows. You'll need lots of paper napkins in this casual, kitchen-style eatery. Pull up a bench and prepare to get messy. Whether you opt for the ribs, the pulled pork, or the barbecued chicken sandwich, this is the place to put your spicy taste buds on hold and opt for the mild sauce, which garnered an "Oh-Miss-Nellie" (highest) rating in Atlanta Magazine's survey of area barbecue. Aqua Blue's sushi bar is among Atlanta's best, and Chef Saito creates magic in front of your eyes. This recent addition to Roswell is garnering attention for its elegant style and innovative dishes. The efficient and modern atmosphere lends itself well to the unique menu, and attracts a large patronage in an area not known for its cuisine. The service is impeccable. The contemporary menu is heavily laden with seafood specialties. Araxi also maintains an enormous wine cellar housing more than 350 vintages and 1800 bottles. Though the decision may seem a foreboding task, every wine offers its own special reward for a particular dish on the menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This terrific upscale cafe concept is a welcome addition to the Atlanta dining scene. Come for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a tasty pick-me-up. Patrons split themselves just about evenly between sit-down and take-out orders, but the dining area is pleasant, if also somewhat simply decorated. Serving the best food in its neighborhood, this low key joint has stood the test of time. The name is rather suggestive of the prevailing decor, both inside and out. A small bar is located in the corner of the simply adorned dining room. Nothing trendy, nothing fancy, the menu is as straightforward as the service. The fried shrimp is among the best in the city, lightly breaded and not too greasy. Other seafood specialties include a salmon and lobster bisque and a rotating variety of grilled and fried fish. Formerly of the popular Atlanta standard Peasant Uptown, chef Scott Crawford has repeated his magic at Food 101, a great American bistro that features classic recipes with country flair. Simple and classy, the restaurant thrives on its hip environment and attitude, and is a suave destination for business lunches. The menu is not explicitly Southern, per se, but features many styles of the region, set off by Crawford's interesting signature touches. Steaks, seafood selections, and great big salads are constant winners. Full bar service is available. See website for menu, wine list, catering options, and online reservations. So Many Choices! |
5134 Old National Highway Suite H Atlanta, GA 30349 United States +1 404 763 9030 |
As upscale as Chinese needs to be, this long-standing favorite is a nice choice for something more than just carry-out. Formosa prides itself on a spectacular buffet. The dining area is dominated by the presence of this parade of food, surrounded by comfortable tables and a representative showing of standard Chinese eatery art. You can't go wrong with the buffet, but for lighter appetites, the Kung Pao shrimp is reliable, as is the Mandarin pork. For vegetarians, the Hunan veggie plate will not set you back a lot. This is full-bore Mexican, not Americanized versions of traditional south-of-the-border cuisine. Close to the corporate offices of NCR and other large companies, a large business lunch and after-work contingent keeps Frontera busy throughout the day. The upbeat environment makes it a great choice for an evening of drinks and light snacks, too, if you're staying in the area. Putting strong faith in the standards, Frontera takes great pride in its specialty tacos and burritos. Combination platters are suitably proportioned, and most entree selections are rather low in price. Full bar. See website for menus and other locations. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional dark wood and brass appointments set the mood for an evening of good old-fashioned eating, American-steakhouse style. The friendly bar is cut from the same cloth and is a good place to meet before dinner or for an after-work round of drinks. Best known for its Black Angus beef selections, Garrison's also offers fresh seafood, good salads and a fine dessert selection. The impressive wine list is backed by more than 30 selections of single malt scotch, 12 beers on tap and more than 60 brands of bottled spirits. Review © 2007, Wcities |

With several locations throughout the city, Grady's provides good, sit-down meals at a fair price. The dark paneling and ceiling fans lend a rustic air to this fun spot. Signs and quirky memorabilia line the walls and set the mood, and the bar that greets guests near the door is usually pretty lively. The menu offers salmon, steaks, pizza and great sandwich selections, as well as a full line of standard American dinner favorites, plus great desserts. Full bar service available. This Southern comfort and seafood restaurant is set in a rambling one-story house that has been restored and decorated with odds and ends from the early 20th century. In a homey atmosphere of yesteryear charm, Bill Greenwood serves up a menu that is highlighted by famous crab cakes and even more famous pies. Don't forget to sample the classic (and extra sweet) sweet tea, which is worth a special trip by itself. Be sure to bring cash as well, because Greenwood's does not accept the plastic. Widely considered to be the best of the few Korean restaurants in the city, Hanwoori serves authentic Korean specialties in a beautifully laid out restaurant. The sparsely appointed dining room is immense, with high ceilings and plenty of space. There are also private dining rooms available for hire. Traditional specialties dot the menu, which offers a complete representation of the wide range of Korean cuisine. If you are adventurous, try one of the more spicy entrees. The broiled salmon is a time-tested favorite. Full bar service available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chinese Vegetarian |

Hidden away in a shopping mall, this diamond in the rough serves traditional Chinese food prepared without meat or dairy products. The decor is not eye catching or unique, but veggie-loving locals don't seem to mind. All the Chinese standbys are on the menu, but no meat or eggs are used in preparation (except in the fortune cookies). Beef dishes such as Mongolian beef are prepared with soy products without giving up much in taste. This restaurant is great for both the avid vegetarian and skeptical meat-eater who needs some convincing. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A longtime favorite for barbecue, this simple down-home pork joint continues to attract the local lunch crowd and families looking for good, inexpensive eats. A classic BBQ shack, Harold's makes no attempt to provide gourmet comfort, but that's probably why the food is so good. The menu is also simple and features the basics. With your barbecue, try the Brunswick stew and the cracklin' cornbread. And of course, sweet tea is the beverage of choice. Review © 2007, Wcities |

With a second location in the Virgin Islands, these folks know something about creating an island setting. The interior is island rich, with dark wood walls, a long bar, and tables arranged for dining or mingling. At Houlihan's, the focus is on fun, at least until the food arrives. The restaurant is perhaps a shade more formal than national chain competitors such as Bennigan's and T.G.I.Fridays, but keeps the mood high nonetheless. The centrally-located bar provides a hub around which activity at the warm wooden booths and tables revolves. Great for happy hours, work parties, and large groups. Houlihan's serves up the best of the new American sit-down fast food. Pasta dishes, fajitas, barbecue and salads are all competently prepared and satisfying. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular with locals with an eye on value, this Indian restaurant is sure to delight longtime lovers of curry as well as those who can't who have never even heard of it. The crowded cafeteria-style setting can sometimes get overwhelming, but the food more than makes up for the relative lack of decor. Vegetarian favorites occupy the lion's share of the menu, but don't come looking for gourmet presentation. The food is hot and simply-presented, and many patrons choose the takeout option. The vegetarian soup is always available, and a consistent favorite. Review © 2007, Wcities |

3861 Roswell Road Atlanta, GA 30342 United States +1 404 261 3777 http://www.momoyaga.com/momoya... |
Peacefully co-existing with Lee's Golden Buddha next door, Mo Mo Ya has been consistently rated the best place for sushi or Japanese steak in town for many years. Upscale but not stuffy, this is one steakhouse that never forgets that the show can be as important as the food. Sushi, sashimi and tempura are the most popular non hibachi selections, but most patrons opt for the traditional dining room show, with fast knives and hot cooking right at the table. Reservations are requested for parties of six or more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Family-Style Italian |
2615 George Busbee Parkway NW Atlanta, GA 30144 United States +1 770 423 0391 |
Lots of places promise home-style Italian, but if you want to feel like one of the family, My Cousin Vinny's is your best bet. While the dining room is great for families, adults will enjoy live music on the covered patio Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm to 2am. You must be 21 to enter the patio during these hours, as the mood can get a little rowdy. Pizza, cal zones, and some of the best spaghetti in town are consistent favorites, but if you want Vinny's best, opt for the lasagna. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Think subdued elegance – gold and off-white interiors, jazz playing in the background, and an unobtrusive service. Welcome to Nan, one of the finest Thai eateries in all of Atlanta. You can choose from an array of authentic dumplings, curries, and rice preparations – the Beet-Juice Tinted Dumplings and the Panang Curry come highly recommended. In addition, the restaurant offers outdoor dining, a full bar, and rooms for private gatherings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In Atlanta, Natori means sushi. The restaurant's traditional white walls, sectioned off by wooden dividers and shelving, set the stage for a truly Japanese experience. Waiters wear ornate garb and little white hats, and are friendly enough to explain the menu to novices. Full sushi and sashimi selections are offered, plus a wonderful selection of more intricate offerings, including steamed shrimp dumplings, teriyaki and tempura selections, and udon. Lunch and dinner boxes are available, or try the signature dinner specials for two. The nice children's menu is also a winner. Review © 2007, Wcities |

It's hard classify the style of new American cuisine served at Noche, but the ambiguity won't bother your taste buds. A long bar starts at the door and continues for most of the narrow room, while red-shaded cone lamps provide a romantic ambiance. In the rear, covered porch seating is shared with La Tavola Trattoria next door. The menu features everything from rare tuna with jicama and radish slaw to barbecued quail over black-eyed peas. Full bar service is available, with margaritas and other tequila concoctions as the drinks of choice. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This café is housed in a restored train depot, and the passing trains lend an authentic ambiance when the silverware begins to shake on the table. The main room is dark and rustic, with high ceilings accented by ceiling fans. An outdoor deck looks over downtown and the business district, and is enclosed and heated during winter months. Baby-back ribs, steak, and Cajun and Creole dishes are the highlights of evening dining. Lunch includes solid favorites such as soups, salads, sandwiches and quiches. Domestic beer is also available. Presented in a family dining setting, this north suburban spot is a diamond in the rough, though well-known among locals. The amazing variety of fish is fresh and served unadorned, allowing the full natural taste to really come through. A number of non-aquatic items like steaks and chicken are also offered, and are presented with similar no-nonsense simplicity. Reservations are not necessary, but even a half hour out of the city, the wait can be long on weekends. A nice bar is on hand for solace during the wait. There are steakhouses and there's Old Hickory House. More than an eatery, it is an institution for steak lovers across the country. Done up in hues of brown and burgundy, Old Hickory House still retains the charm and essence of the good old backyard steakhouses. Brunswick Stew is the star here. Pork ribs, chicken barbecue platter and beef steaks are also in the reckoning. Homemade Biscuits and Sausage Gravy are an all time favorite. Old Hickory House's sumptuous breakfast is raved about all over the city. The staff here has been serving for donkey's years and know all their regulars well. Fashioned after the earthy dim sum houses of San Francisco's Chinatown, this affordable restaurant is located about ten minutes from Buckhead among the antique shops of Chamblee. Carts are wheeled through the large dining area for the patrons' perusal, making for a deliberately leisurely lunch or dinner pace. This charming sidewalk cafe is located just a skip east of Highland Avenue. Late weekend hours make it a great place to start, or end, your evening of revelry in the surrounding nightclub district. Simple and sweet, the Pad puts more into its dishes than onto its walls. The light Oriental motif is surprising after viewing the enormous Thai-themed mural on the side of the building. Atlanta Journal Constitution wrote, "More than just plain steaks at argentine-style Pampas..". Come by for some delicious steak and fresh seafood. The casual ambience, the Tango show on Thursdays and Live Music on Fridays and Saturdays, ensure a continuous inflow of guests. Apart from the enormous steaks, the Argentinean menu also offers chorizo, criollo, chimichurri sauce and empanadas. Go for the Empanadas Pampas - traditional beef, ham and cheese, chicken, corn and cheese - for starters. The gastronomic expedition has only just begun. Not to be confused with the popular Buckhead tavern that goes by the same name, this comfortable steak house puts out great steaks and chops without the pretension. The short trip from the city is well worth it for those who prefer to focus on the steak instead of the surroundings. A family business, this small restaurant offers authentic Colombian food for very reasonable prices. A small, cozy atmosphere is created by the family treatment the owners and employees afford their customers. Colombian television plays at the counter which has a few seats, as well. The menu features authentic Colombian, including Patacon Caribeno (a pizza-like dish) and house delicacies such as Bandeja Montanera (rice, beans, plantains, sausage, fried pork skins, avocado, and egg). One of Atlanta's few Malaysian restaurants, Penang has been applauded by such distinguished critics as The New York Times. The intimate dining room never gets very loud, and it provides a perfect date atmosphere. Many dishes are strictly vegetarian, but the menu offers a wide array of chicken and beef dishes, too. Try any of the noodle soups, the fried squid, the Malaysian Buddhist Delight or the Sarang Burong. Many dishes are extremely spicy, but fortunately, these are indicated as such on the menu. Still the most famous and one of the most popular of American pizzerias, this longtime favorite has several Atlanta locations. While their pies have kept up with the times, Pizza Hut has maintained its standard family pizzeria look. When your order is up, you'll hear a different accent coming from the kitchen. This authentic New York pizzeria stays close to its roots, right down to the wait staff. The décor is rather institutional, with a cafeteria-style lineup on the left and a few booths to the right, but for takeout or a bite on the go, it's tough to beat this place. Pies are made the New York way, and well enough so to be known by many New York transplants as the place to get their hometown pizza fix. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The menu consists of New South cuisine including great soups and a beautifully prepared pork tenderloin. A nice wine list is offered, as well as choice ale and lager selections. Try the Garlic Naan Bread, the Lamb Vindaloo and the Onion Bhajee-all of them cause patrons to gush with praise. The result is an exceptional hotel restaurant to which Atlanta's fashionable crowd is beginning to migrate.
