Owner and Chef, Kelly Goggin creates incredible dishes with a Southwestern and Mediterranean twist. Kelly believes in quality; as a result, each dish is carefully prepared with unique flavors and is perfectly presented. Lobster Burrito, Tuna Tostada, Ambra Bouillabaisse, and Crab Cakes are highly recommended. And, since you've already broken your diet, might as well go for the divine warm Belgian Chocolate Cake, which is served with vanilla ice-cream.

Anderson's Old Fashioned Barbecue

Timeless Smoked Flavor

They do barbecue the old way at Anderson's, and it shows. You'll need lots of paper napkins in this casual, kitchen-style eatery. Pull up a bench and prepare to get messy. Whether you opt for the ribs, the pulled pork, or the barbecued chicken sandwich, this is the place to put your spicy taste buds on hold and opt for the mild sauce, which garnered an "Oh-Miss-Nellie" (highest) rating in Atlanta Magazine's survey of area barbecue.

Ashby Street Rib Shack

Ribs in an Actual Shack
22 Ashby St
Atlanta, GA 30310
United States
+1 404 659 4747
This is an authentic rib shack such as you used to find in every little town from Richmond to New Orleans. You can eat barbecue in a nice fancy kitchen, but it's not quite the same. Ashby's puts out barbecue the way it should be. Hot and always cooking. And in a shack. As any veteran of the pork game will tell you, great sauce makes all the difference. Sandwiches and pork plates are the consistent favorites, but the slaw and potato salad are worth a taste, too.

Competing with the big chains, this is a great local steak house offering (you guessed it) great steak at an affordable price. This restaurant is set up like a large Western roadhouse with high ceilings and lots of Western decorations. Although bordering on corny, it still retains that hearty steak house appeal. The steaks are large and expertly prepared. Baked potatoes and salads are available to round out your meal, as well as a few less beefy items. Great beer selections and a full bar are available.

If you have never savored honest-to-goodness, messy-fingered Southern barbecue, don't leave town without making a stop at Daddy D'z, located in the heart of the city. The flimsy, checkered tablecloths and spray-painted walls don't bother the working class clientele, and they fit in well with live blues from bands such as Five Easy Pieces, Chicago Joe and White Trash, and Black Cat Bone. Enjoy a half-slab of ribs for $11.95 or a pair of pork or beef sandwiches ($2.79-$3.29) while relaxing to some of the hottest blues music in town.

A longtime favorite for barbecue, this simple down-home pork joint continues to attract the local lunch crowd and families looking for good, inexpensive eats. At Houlihan's, the focus is on fun, at least until the food arrives. The restaurant is perhaps a shade more formal than national chain competitors such as Bennigan's and T.G.I.Fridays, but keeps the mood high nonetheless. The centrally-located bar provides a hub around which activity at the warm wooden booths and tables revolves. Great for happy hours, work parties, and large groups. Houlihan's serves up the best of the new American sit-down fast food. Pasta dishes, fajitas, barbecue and salads are all competently prepared and satisfying.

With two locations in the greater Atlanta area, you can always find a reliable meal at the Log House. The dining room is large and often hosts large groups during the lunch rush in midweek and dinner hours on weekends. The booths and tables make JR's more of a restaurant than a rib shack. Just northeast of town in Lilburn, this barbecue joint puts its time and effort where its mouth is, and recognizes that the sauce is the key. It wouldn't qualify as a barbecue restaurant if it were too fancy, but the dining room is nicer than many. Few frills, of course, just a cool, comfortable place to wolf down pork. Creative lighting and elegant place settings create a welcoming environment at this restaurant in the Westin Buckhead. Authentic Bronlyn Bird caricatures line the walls with whimsical touches, while the lounge is a fine example of the old-fashioned restaurant bar. Steaks, chops and veal are the pride of the menu, while pasta and seafood items also make the cut, with the house specialty lobsters often weighing in at seven pounds. A dazzling 36-ounce New York Strip is available for the meat-loving couple that likes to share. For dessert, don't miss the tiramisu. See website for menus and links.

The Swallow at the Hollow

BBQ with Country Charm
1072 Green Street
Atlanta, GA 30075
United States
+1 678 352 1975
http://www.theswallowattheholl...
This charming restaurant in near north Roswell is housed in a converted barn, giving it a rustic, yet modern, open-air feeling. The casual atmosphere, good food and great prices are a hit with the weekend crowds who flock to this antique haven. Plates of ribs and platters of barbecued beef, pork, sausage and turkey are generous and well prepared, while warm biscuits served with honey are a vital part of every meal. For vegetarians, the portobello mushroom sandwich with fried green tomatoes is fantastic. After 10p most weekends, the Swallow turns concert venue, hosting live musical performances by singer-songwriter types. See website for menu, photo tour, catering options, and events calendar.

This Is It

Pulled Pork and Jesus
4065 Memorial Drive
Atlanta, GA 30332
United States
+1 404 292 5616
http://www.thisisitbbq.com
The name says it all. If you're looking for great barbecue on the east side of Atlanta, "this is it." However, if you're afraid to get your hands dirty, you may as well stay home. The simple dining room is designed for one thing: the systematic devouring of pork. Recently awarded an "Oh Miss Nellie" rating by Atlanta magazine for their signature ribs, patrons have made this choice a favorite for its slide-off-the-bone goodness. Shredded and pulled pork and beef, plus some barbecue chicken items round out the menu. See website for full menu, other locations, and in-store Bible study information.

Woody's

Hot Steak and Cheese
981 Monroe Drive North East
Atlanta, GA 30308-1755
United States
+1 404 876 1939
This little wooden shack occupies a tiny triangular lot where Virginia Avenue slides into Monroe, just a few steps south of Piedmont Park. You'll find a few tables inside by the ordering window, but most patrons take their sandwiches out to the wraparound porch that overlooks Monroe. Most famous for their classic Philly Cheese Steaks, Woody's also boasts a full line of subs, sausages and dogs. Stop by for lunch, dinner, or just for ice cream, as Woody's is almost as popular for banana split as for sandwiches. No liquor.

eleven50

Sleek Modern Club
1150B Peachtree Road
Atlanta, GA 30309
United States
+1 404 874 0428
http://www.eleven50.com/
Residing in a former theater, eleven50 is almost too cool for itself. Between the elegant, old wood flooring and the high ceilings are velvety sofas, shimmering curtains, intimate lighting and, always, beautiful people. A number of bars scattered around the club provide plenty of alcoholic fuel for late-night sound reveries as famous DJs spin. Out back there's an outdoor lounge called Eden with plush beds and the sound of a fountain to mute your private conversations. This is one of the best trendy locations in Atlanta.
