Anderson's Old Fashioned Barbecue

Timeless Smoked Flavor
65 Willis Mill Road
Atlanta, GA 30301
United States
+1 404 696 8144
They do barbecue the old way at Anderson's, and it shows. You'll need lots of paper napkins in this casual, kitchen-style eatery. Pull up a bench and prepare to get messy. Whether you opt for the ribs, the pulled pork, or the barbecued chicken sandwich, this is the place to put your spicy taste buds on hold and opt for the mild sauce, which garnered an "Oh-Miss-Nellie" (highest) rating in Atlanta Magazine's survey of area barbecue.

Dine in Antebellum Opulence
3109 Piedmont Road
Atlanta, GA 30305
United States
+1 404 262 7379
http://www.anthonysfinedining.com
The plantation home that houses this distinguished restaurant is not a Buckhead original. The historic structure, which dates to 1797, was disassembled and moved piece by piece to its present address, and now provides a charming antebellum setting for some of Atlanta's finest dining. The formal, multi-room setting proves very popular for wedding receptions and dignified corporate events, while the menu of traditional Southern specialties draws consistent crowds. An award-winning wine list is presented by a very genteel, very Southern wait staff. Full bar service is available.

Ashby Street Rib Shack

Ribs in an Actual Shack
22 Ashby St
Atlanta, GA 30310
United States
+1 404 659 4747
This is an authentic rib shack such as you used to find in every little town from Richmond to New Orleans. You can eat barbecue in a nice fancy kitchen, but it's not quite the same. Ashby's puts out barbecue the way it should be. Hot and always cooking. And in a shack. As any veteran of the pork game will tell you, great sauce makes all the difference. Sandwiches and pork plates are the consistent favorites, but the slaw and potato salad are worth a taste, too.

Brickery Bar & Grill

Sandy Springs Favorite
6125 Roswell Road
Atlanta, GA 30328
United States
+1 404 843 8002
Serving the best food in its neighborhood, this low key joint has stood the test of time. The name is rather suggestive of the prevailing decor, both inside and out. A small bar is located in the corner of the simply adorned dining room. Nothing trendy, nothing fancy, the menu is as straightforward as the service. The fried shrimp is among the best in the city, lightly breaded and not too greasy. Other seafood specialties include a salmon and lobster bisque and a rotating variety of grilled and fried fish.

Southern As It Gets
810 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
Atlanta, GA 30314
United States
+1 404 525 9212
http://thebusybeecafe.com
Hanging tough at its original location downtown, the Busy Bee is a hometown favorite for no-nonsense, down-home cooking. The locals outnumber tourists, a telling indicator of the Busy Bee's style. Red faux-leather booths line one wall, opposed by an old-time diner-style counter with red faux-leather-topped stools. No fancy "New Southern" pretenses here, just bona fide Dixie standbys like fried chicken, oxtails, smothered pork chops, fresh fried corn, greens, and candied yams. The marriage of soul food and Southern tradition is a happy one, and it comes pretty cheap, too.

An Atlanta institution since 1927, the Colonnade sets the table with some of the best Southern food in the city. The gingham-curtained dining room hasn't changed since the 50s, with vinyl booths, big family tables and waitresses who call you "sugar." Traditional entrees such as fried chicken, pork roast and meatloaf are complimented by classic Dixie sides; the fried okra, sweet potatoes, three-day beans and highly addictive rolls should all be sampled. Great Brunswick stew, great sides, and great sandwiches are available. All exotic with its murals and red lanterns, TWO. urban licks is a trendy place that is a cut above other restaurants in Atlanta. Offering a picturesque view of the mid-town, this eatery attracts office goers, tourists and even locals. Enrich your dining experience with an array of dishes that Executive Chef Scott Serpas prepares in the open kitchen, right in the heart of the restaurant. Accompany your meal with wine, which flows freely from 42 huge barrels on display. Go with the Lamb Lollipops, Lemon Crab Fritters or Smoked Beef Brisket - all come highly recommended. The Chocolate Cream Pie makes a great end to the meal. There's live blues acts in the evenings from Wednesdays to Saturdays.

Ted Turner and George McKerrow Jr ventured together to set up a stekhouse which would serve the all American steak in an authetic "Montana grill atmosphere". Besides steak there are delicious crab cakes, meatloaf, cedar plank salmon, burgers and lots more to dig into. Since 2002 when the first Ted's Montana Grill opened its doors, they have several outlets all over America to serve wholesome American fare, made from meticulously procured ingredients, which is evident from their taste and aroma. A stylish place for people who believe n style, elegance and tradition.

The name says it all. If you're looking for great barbecue on the east side of Atlanta, "this is it." However, if you're afraid to get your hands dirty, you may as well stay home. The simple dining room is designed for one thing: the systematic devouring of pork. Recently awarded an "Oh Miss Nellie" rating by Atlanta magazine for their signature ribs, patrons have made this choice a favorite for its slide-off-the-bone goodness. Shredded and pulled pork and beef, plus some barbecue chicken items round out the menu. See website for full menu, other locations, and in-store Bible study information.

Set in the nerve center of the trendy Vinings district on Atlanta's north side, the Vinings Inn serves as a lively gathering place for a few drinks or a light dinner in a comfortable historic setting. The building resembles a turn-of-the-century farmhouse, while inside, the antique charm is in full swing, with live entertainment nightly in the attic bar. The restaurant serves mostly standard American fare with a mild salute to Southern influence, and all dishes are competently prepared and fairly priced. Full wine, beer and liquor service is available.

Wisteria is a lovely neighborhood restaurant in the Inman Park area. The atmosphere is modest-rustic, yet very comfortable. Interior decoration mainly consists of a combination of brick and wood finishes with tables for two aligned across the wall. Wisteria is a great place to take visitors for a lively evening meal. The Menu is American with Southern culinary accents, e.g. their signature dish -- Molasses-Rubbed Pork Tenderloin -- is absolutely delicious. Seafood lovers may try North Atlantic Skate Wing served over stone-ground corn grits. Service is very friendly and efficient. Complementary parking is available. Reservations are strongly recommended on weekends. -Manana Khachidze

Youngblood's Cafe

Smiling Faces & Soul Food
595 Piedmont Ave
Atlanta, GA 30308
United States
+1 404 249 6666
A former local DJ known as Youngblood created this interesting eatery years ago, and his cooking career has been as successful as his radio life. Youngblood still serves up some of the best Southern soul food in town in a funky 50s atmosphere. A terrific chef in his own right, Youngblood often takes over the kitchen to oversee the creation of his signature fried chicken. If you can't get a seat in the crowded dining area, grab a seat at the bar and rub lunch elbows with the locals.
