Atlanta's Oldest Neighborhood Tavern |
794 North Highland Ave Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 876 7249 http://www.atkinspark.com/ |
The city's oldest tavern is a great place to sip a cold one, watch the game, or take in a delicious weekend brunch. A favorite with the Emory and young professional crowds, the place really moves most nights, but never loses its laid-back tavern atmosphere. The menu includes Georgia Mountain Trout, Rusty's Creole Jambalaya, as well as a host of other pasta, seafood, steak and vegetarian choices. The bar also has a light late-night menu with appetizers and sandwiches. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Blues You Can Use |
828 North Highland Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 873 2583 http://www.blindwilliesblues.com/ |
Year after year, this smoky joint in the Highlands is rated the best blues venue in Atlanta. Legends as notable as Junior Wells and Taj Mahal have graced the stage in recent years, offering patrons some of blues music's biggest acts in a very intimate setting. Come early, as the tables are few and fill quickly. A full bar, located in the rear, along with a somewhat limited menu, round out an evening of blues bliss. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Dressed up Diner |
3073 Piedmont Road Atlanta, GA 30305 United States +1 404 262 3336 http://www.buckheadrestaurants... |
An evening at this trendy spot may reveal a celebrity or two, as well as some of Buckead's most dressed-up diners. Funky Art Deco decor spices up this glorified diner, with booths and sassy waitresses to match. The menu covers the basics, but pulls some creative twists. Try the famous homemade potato chips with Maytag bleu cheese dressing, or Atlanta's fanciest meatloaf, comprised of veal and wild mushrooms. A diner-style bar with swivel stools serves cocktails to Atlanta's chic and stylish as they endure the frequent wait for a table. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Best of land and sea |
70 West Paces Ferry Road Atlanta, GA 30305 United States +1 404 262 2675 http://www.buckheadrestaurants... |
Though best known for its steaks and chops, this upscale restaurant, opened in 1989, also delivers prime seafood, from seared yellow fin tuna to cracked pepper and almond-crusted swordfish. Located in the lower level of one of Buckhead's few high-rises, the art deco dining room features redwood walls and alabaster chandeliers. The adjoining Lobster Bar serves two- to five-pound shelled monsters, but is closed for lunch. Take care when ordering side items, as the servings provide plenty to share. A full-service bar provides over 400 wine selections. Business attire required. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Located a few doors from the historic Fox Theatre, this funky club is a great post-theatre hangout, as well as a fine place to enjoy a mellow evening of jazz. Gritty and authentic all the way, comfortable chairs and cabaret-style seating contribute to a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy some great music. Full bar service is available, including a great assortment of high quality liqueurs and perhaps the best coffee in Midtown. Churchill Grounds is also home to the Best Martini, as proclaimed by Creative Loafing Magazine. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Where business minds unwind |
17 International Blvd Atlanta, GA 30303 United States +1 404 681 3303 http://www.daileysrestaurant.com/ |
Casual sophistication awaits at this downtown restaurant, opened in 1981 in a two-story, turn-of-the-century warehouse. Businessmen frequent this establishment, decorated with carousel horses and leather booths, and often head straight for the martini and cigar bar to unwind or settle in for a meal. The menu ranges from Continental, such as escargot and filet mignon in a Cabernet sauce, to creative American offerings like Dailey's heralded fried ice cream. Live entertainment is featured nightly in the bar. Wine tastings are hosted on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Jazz Six Nights A Week |
3380 Peachtree Road Atlanta, GA 30326 United States +1 404 266 1600 http://www.dantesdownthehatch.... |
Since 1970, visitors have packed this exotic dinner club to eat fondue, listen to jazz and have the opportunity to view live alligators. The club is divided into 13 staggered levels, designed to resemble an old sailing vessel. Fondues are served in many varieties, including mixed meat and cheese trays, vegetable platters and, of course, chocolate. The restaurant's 300 wines range from $16 to more than $800. Wild tunes nightly |
488 Flat Shoals Ave Atlanta, GA 30316 United States +1 404 522 3950 http://www.badearl.com |
"The Earl" is actually an acronym for "the East Atlanta Restaurant and Lounge." Located in East Atlanta Village, this is a favorite spot among high-spirited partiers in the area; the music here is loud, and the crowd is never dull. On scheduled nights, the lounge features hard-charging bands from Georgia and around the country, in genres ranging from alternative to metal to rock. Cover charge varies depending on the act for the night. Bar food is served. Review © 2009, Wcities |

A Little Bit of Midtown |
485 Flat Shoals Ave Atlanta, GA 30316 United States +1 404 522 7841 http://www.eastsidelounge.net/ |
When the hipsters come out to play in East Atlanta, this is where they meet up. Much clubbier than the quiet taverns typical of this neighborhood, the Eastside Lounge has carved out its own niche and attracted a following from all over Atlanta. A long bar flanks the left side of the dimly-lit lower room, while upstairs, patrons sit in the loft lounge and watch art house flicks projected on the wall. A limited menu is available during the dinner hour, but most don't show up here to eat. DJs live Monday through Saturday. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Jambalaya, Ettoufee & Tunes |
1104 Crescent Ave NE (14th Street) Atlanta, GA 30309 United States +1 404 897 3500 http://www.fpnnews.com |
The unusual journalism motif suits itself well to the outgoing crowd that packs this Midtown club most nights. The martinis and the beer choices are second to none, and the Cajun fare gets high marks from local papers and diners alike. A roaring fireplace sets the mood in cooler months, while the garden-like patio is the place to be during fair weather. More laid back than the higher-profile clubs of Midtown, Front Page offers great local bands most nights, and its central location makes it a great post-theater cocktail destination. One of the better nightclubs in Midtown, Halo offers a sleek, upscale atmosphere to its young and influential clientele. The interior focuses on glass, colors and clever designs for a fantastical, intimate feeling. The bartenders mix up a mean martini or any cocktail you can think of, including house specials, and offer a wide variety of premium liquors. 1026 North Highland Ave NE (at Virginia Avenue) Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 875 3673 http://www.restaurant.com/micr... |
A lot goes on at this hippest of Highlands corners, which sits snugly beneath the sidewalk at Highland and Virginia Avenues. Cozy up to the bar with the sleek after-work crowd, then stay late as the locals filter in. Dim lights and exposed stone walls set a romantic, if crowded scene. The rear section doubles as an upscale steakhouse, open for lunch and dinner daily, as well as weekend brunch. Play your cards right, and the folks here will serve you a steak at the bar well into the night. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Atlanta's Oldest Pub |
822 North Highland Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 874 7147 http://www.limerickjunction.com |
If an Irish pub's your thing, pull up a stool at this popular rendition in the heart of the Virginia Highlands. Take your pick of English and Irish stouts, ales and lagers, or peruse the lengthy list of bottled fare. The selection of aged Scotches and uncommon whiskies is particularly impressive. The small stage, back-dropped by busy Highland Avenue, features live acoustic acts nightly, often accompanied by the high-spirited, if musically-challenged, patrons. Review © 2009, Wcities |

City Hall's Watering Hole |
602 North Highland Ave Atlanta, GA 30307 United States +1 404 525 3447 http://www.manuelstavern.com |
Located a few blocks from the old City Hall, this traditional corner bar was known as the hub of Atlanta's political scuttlebutt for more than 50 years but is now a homier, neighborhood-type place. The row of cozy booths opposite the room-length bar is great spot to catch a pint and a Braves game. Several dining rooms set off from the bar make the place much more family friendly than in years past, and the kitchen serves up a surprisingly diverse grille menu. Try the grilled tuna steak with a side of slow-basted black beans. On many a saturday night, Manuel's patrons are treated to the comic stylings of Atlanta's oldest comedy troupe, Laughing Matters Improvisation. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Heaven or Hell? |
695 North Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30308 United States +1 404 577 8178 http://www.masq.com/ |
Are you bound for Heaven or for hell? Purgatory might be your best option at this music club east of downtown. Upstairs in Heaven, live bands and dancing are featured, while downstairs in Hell, there is lots of good old-fashioned drinking. Feeling dirty? Try dancing in six inches of soapsuds, yet another unusual offering. The club often books big-name bands from around the country, and past guests have included Everclear and the Specials. Swing dance lessons, pool tables and great food are also all part of this 'otherworldly' experience at the Masquerade. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Great for Romance |
255 Courtland St (Atlanta Hilton and Towers) Atlanta, GA 30303 United States +1 404 221 6362 http://www.nikolaisroof.com |
Set atop the Hilton Atlanta and Towers, this restaurant offers the epitome of romance. The view from the roof is breathtaking, and the elegant service is second to none. The gourmet menu features fine Russian cuisine, and the dishes are planned to go with and enhance the many vodka options available. The prix fixe menu is expensive, but offers a truly exemplary Russian meal. Two formal seatings are scheduled nightly, but many folks arrive early to enjoy the views from the cocktail bar. Reservations and jackets are required. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Dining Beneath the Trees |
500 Tenth St Atlanta, GA 30309 United States +1 404 249 0001 http://www.parktavern.com/ |
This warm brewery sits at the southeast corner of Piedmont Park, Atlanta's busiest public green. It is a favorite among dog lovers, and hitches are available along the patio to leash your pet while you dine. The decidedly tavern-like interior is dark and friendly, with a fireplace. Two bars offer limited seating, but the main attraction is the patio, which overlooks the Midtown skyline. Pastas, fish and a wide range of appetizers highlight the menu. The Tavern also brews its own line of beer, which ranges from light amber ales to full-bodied stouts. Review © 2009, Wcities |

Stars Come Out Nightly |
437 Moreland Ave (Euclid Avenue) Atlanta, GA 30307 United States +1 404 681 9018 http://www.starbar.net/ |
The small door on Moreland Avenue may not give it away, but this swinging joint is a prime hotspot on the local music scene. Featuring live bands every night, the Star is a longtime favorite for catching rising acts and great neighborhood groups. Wild and a little wacky, the dimly lit ambiance leans a bit toward the psychedelic. When the music is not blaring, the place tones down a bit, but remains one of the most interesting melting-pot watering holes in the city. Review © 2009, Wcities |

This intimate nightclub features live music seven nights a week, although the musical genre on any given night is anybody's guess. Alternative rock groups, jazz artists and folk singers are regularly showcased, with the club's bookings featuring upstart regional bands and big national names in about equal number. Recent high-profile guests have included piano-based pop group Ben Folds Five and blues legend Taj Mahal. A full bar with an enviable selection of local microbrews is also on hand. Don't let the 20-foot skull that serves as an entryway deter you from enjoying the best burgers and pub food in the city. When club-hopping in Atlanta, a visit to this late-night spot is a must. This fun restaurant offers big portions, low prices and good food. The award-winning Vortex Burger is a half-pound burger with all the trimmings and there is a choice of pub-style sandwiches and salads.
