Dressed up Diner |
3073 Piedmont Road Atlanta, GA 30305 United States +1 404 262 3336 http://www.buckheadrestaurants... |
An evening at this trendy spot may reveal a celebrity or two, as well as some of Buckead's most dressed-up diners. Funky Art Deco decor spices up this glorified diner, with booths and sassy waitresses to match. The menu covers the basics, but pulls some creative twists. Try the famous homemade potato chips with Maytag bleu cheese dressing, or Atlanta's fanciest meatloaf, comprised of veal and wild mushrooms. A diner-style bar with swivel stools serves cocktails to Atlanta's chic and stylish as they endure the frequent wait for a table. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Best of land and sea |
70 West Paces Ferry Road Atlanta, GA 30305 United States +1 404 262 2675 http://www.buckheadrestaurants... |
Though best known for its steaks and chops, this upscale restaurant, opened in 1989, also delivers prime seafood, from seared yellow fin tuna to cracked pepper and almond-crusted swordfish. Located in the lower level of one of Buckhead's few high-rises, the art deco dining room features redwood walls and alabaster chandeliers. The adjoining Lobster Bar serves two- to five-pound shelled monsters, but is closed for lunch. Take care when ordering side items, as the servings provide plenty to share. A full-service bar provides over 400 wine selections. Business attire required. Review © 2007, Wcities |

17 International Blvd Atlanta, GA 30303 United States +1 404 681 3303 http://www.daileysrestaurant.com/ |
Casual sophistication awaits at this downtown restaurant, opened in 1981 in a two-story, turn-of-the-century warehouse. Businessmen frequent this establishment, decorated with carousel horses and leather booths, and often head straight for the martini and cigar bar to unwind or settle in for a meal. The menu ranges from Continental, such as escargot and filet mignon in a Cabernet sauce, to creative American offerings like Dailey's heralded fried ice cream. Live entertainment is featured nightly in the bar. Wine tastings are hosted on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Review © 2007, Wcities |

3380 Peachtree Road Atlanta, GA 30326 United States +1 404 266 1600 http://www.dantesdownthehatch.... |
Since 1970, visitors have packed this exotic dinner club to eat fondue, listen to jazz and have the opportunity to view live alligators. The club is divided into 13 staggered levels, designed to resemble an old sailing vessel. Fondues are served in many varieties, including mixed meat and cheese trays, vegetable platters and, of course, chocolate. The restaurant's 300 wines range from $16 to more than $800. Hot Blues & BBQ |
1811 Piedmont Ave (at East Rock Springs Road) Atlanta, GA 30324 United States +1 404 607 1622 http://www.fatmattsribshack.com |
Hot barbecue and hotter music have combined to make this Midtown spot a local legend. The line of folks eager to get their hands on the award-winning ribs can stretch for a dozen yards outside the door, but the wait is worth it. Try the Brunswick stew and pick up a bottle of Fat Matt's secret sauce so you can try and duplicate these pit-roasted wonders at home. Local blues performers stop by daily to pick a few numbers for your dining enjoyment. In the mood for chicken? Try Fat Matt's Chicken Shack, the Rib Shack's sister joint. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Amore & More |
922 Virginia Ave Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 873 5430 http://www.latavolatrattoria.com |
Tavola means "the table" in Italian, a simple name that belies the innovative flair of this elegant restaurant. It is a popular spot for dinner or cocktails, with exposed brick and wooden floors creating an authentic trattoria feel. The covered patio is less crowded, but also less romantic. Italian dishes are prepared in the classic style, perhaps best personified by the veal saltimbocca or the classic torelloni, which is stuffed with smoked mozzarella in a sun-dried tomato-basil pesto cream sauce. An extensive wine list provides many companion options, and you can order by the glass or the bottle. Review © 2007, Wcities |

City Hall's Watering Hole |
602 North Highland Ave Atlanta, GA 30307 United States +1 404 525 3447 http://www.manuelstavern.com |
Located a few blocks from the old City Hall, this traditional corner bar was known as the hub of Atlanta's political scuttlebutt for more than 50 years but is now a homier, neighborhood-type place. The row of cozy booths opposite the room-length bar is great spot to catch a pint and a Braves game. Several dining rooms set off from the bar make the place much more family friendly than in years past, and the kitchen serves up a surprisingly diverse grille menu. Try the grilled tuna steak with a side of slow-basted black beans. On many a saturday night, Manuel's patrons are treated to the comic stylings of Atlanta's oldest comedy troupe, Laughing Matters Improvisation. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For real Southern food with real Southern atmosphere, Mary Mac's is the place. Stop by for everything from country fried steak to green beans that have been cooking for hours. Brunch Worth the Wait |
997 Virginia Ave (at Highland Avenue) Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 872 0904 http://murphysvh.com |
There's always a crowd of people milling about the corner of Virginia and Highland on weekend mornings; they're waiting for brunch at Murphy's, a handsome white-and-green house that accepts call-aheads, but not reservations. The charming dining area has been kept roomy, creating a comfortable environment but also resulting in slightly longer waits. Chicken, lamb and vegetable dinner specialties are well prepared, as is "the Big Murphy," an enormous baked potato that's a meal in itself. Murphy's wine tasting is a highlight. Sophisticated Tex Mex |
3060 Peachtree Road Atlanta, GA 30308 United States +1 404 240 1984 http://www.buckheadrestaurants... |
This lively spot at the dead center of Buckhead boasts its own brand of Southwestern nouvelle cuisine. The upscale dining room and bar are decorated in a strange sort of refined roadhouse look, while the small patio overlooks a fountain fronting the Peachtree sidewalk. Taos transplant and master chef Kevin Rathburn's specialties include chili-cured rack of lamb, sweet shrimp relleno with golden tomato butter, and grilled chicken tortilla tomato soup. A full wine list features many lesser-known regional labels, and the dessert cart is legendary. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great for Romance |
255 Courtland St (Atlanta Hilton and Towers) Atlanta, GA 30303 United States +1 404 221 6362 http://www.nikolaisroof.com |
Set atop the Hilton Atlanta and Towers, this restaurant offers the epitome of romance. The view from the roof is breathtaking, and the elegant service is second to none. The gourmet menu features fine Russian cuisine, and the dishes are planned to go with and enhance the many vodka options available. The prix fixe menu is expensive, but offers a truly exemplary Russian meal. Two formal seatings are scheduled nightly, but many folks arrive early to enjoy the views from the cocktail bar. Reservations and jackets are required. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Critic's Choice |
1232 West Paces Ferry Road Atlanta, GA 30327 United States +1 404 261 3662 http://www.buckheadrestaurants... |
This culinary duo has been mixing up sweet temptations in Atlanta for years, but nowhere with more success than at their namesake restaurant. Formal but not stuffy, business attire is required in the dining room. Seating is very limited, so call early, particularly for weekend reservations. An elegant lounge area is set off from the main restaurant. Start with the chilled lobster bisque or the spicy filet mignon tartar, then move on to the veal, lamb, or beef tenderloin, or go for the seafood, which includes snapper, grouper and salmon. Peerless & Pricey French |
111 West Paces Ferry Road Atlanta, GA 30305 United States +1 404 846 9779 http://www.seegers.com |
The former head man at Buckhead's Ritz-Carlton, chef Guenter Seeger continues to impress with this French enterprise, which has been named Restaurant of the Year by Esquire magazine. The luxuriously-appointed dining room sets an elegant scene for romantic dates or business dinners. This swank restaurant can easily be deemed one of Atlanta's priciest restaurants, and is said to possess quite possibly the city's best all-French wine list. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quintessential Italian Fare |
313 North Highland Avenue Atlanta, GA 30307 United States +1 404 523 6678 http://www.sottosottorestauran... |
This chic Italian spot is set away in a largely residential neighborhood just east of downtown, not far from the mayor's house. The restaurant is a little tricky to find, and the atmosphere suggests that the owners like it that way. Contemporary decor prevails in the dining room, where the lively, youthful crowd can get noisy at times. A classic Italian menu features a wide range of pastas, fresh seafood, risotto, and a wine list with selections from all over Italy. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wonderfully Clever Fare |
Akazienstrasse 9 Atlanta, GA 10823 United States +1 404 873 7358 http://www.fifthgroup.com |
This happening Midtown joint really packs them in, and is quickly garnering a reputation as a can't-miss destination on the local dining scene. The best way to describe the food is creatively modern Southern, but that doesn't really do it justice. The kitchen turns out such remarkable signature dishes as seafood bisque with sherry and scallops over stone ground grits with garlic gravy. Make reservations early on theater nights, as space fills up quickly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located atop downtown's Westin hotel, this rotating restaurant provides stunning views of the entire metro area, and a spectacular setting for a business lunch or special occasion. The creative American menu features artfully-prepared favorites, including many beef and poultry selections and a winning shrimp salad. A separate rotating bar is located directly below the restaurant for taking in the view without the steep dinner ticket. Live jazz plays in the lounge on weekend nights. Jacket and tie recommended for gentlemen. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Always Interesting |
810 North Highland Ave Atlanta, GA 30306 United States +1 404 892 7789 http://www.surinofthailand.com |
There seems to be a new wave of up-and-coming Thai restaurants in Atlanta, but Surin stands out as being special. The fare is unique and expertly done, including such dishes as softshell crabs with asparagus sauce and spicy papaya salad. The no-nonsense dining room is simple and romantic. It can get crowded here, but the wait almost serves as part of the experience. More upscale than most Thai joints, Surin is a bit pricier, too, with most entrees running between $10-15. Full bar. The South's largest drive-in |
61 North Ave NW (at Spring Street) Atlanta, GA 30308 United States +1 404 881 1706 http://www.thevarsity.com/ |
This local legend is billed as the world's largest drive-in and has been a staple on the Atlanta dining scene since 1928. Countless burgers, fries, shakes and more than two miles of hot dogs are served here every day, along with more Coca-Cola than anywhere else in the world. Dine in your car, seat yourself in one of the many cafeteria-style rooms, or simply order your greasy lunch at the 150-foot-long stainless-steel counter and go. The white-tiled diner theme is a welcome throwback to days when drive-ins ruled the fast food scene. Review © 2007, Wcities |
