Bolliwood represents Indian fine-dining at its best, popular with locals and business visitors alike. The stark interior has won many awards for its simplicity and style, and it complements the fine cuisine with panache. The menu features both Northern and Southern Indian cuisine. Try the delicious Butter Chicken; the wine list is extensive. The spectacular chai—wallah will visit your table to pour tea in flourishing style worthy of a performance in a Bolliwood movie—one of the highlights of the meal! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Athidi enjoys a peaceful setting within the Parnell Village, with views of the city and harbour. The restaurant is decorated in warm, inviting colours and lengths of beautiful Indian sari fabric. Patrons can eat outside on the veranda or patio. Their fabulous masalas are prepared on the premises and are used in such delicacies as Machi Tikka "awesome fish"-boneless fish fillets in green masala, herbs and spices, cooked over the tandoor. All meals are served with complimentary rice. Chutney's is licensed and you may bring you own wine only. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Totally Asian food experience |
9 Albert Street Auckland 1001 New Zealand +64 (0)9 373 4917 |
As the best food court in the city for cheap and authentic Asian food, Food Alley boasts 15 kitchens sharing a common dining area. It is a bit like eating in a converted car park--but you do not come here for the scenery. Food from all over Asia is on offer. Zap is recommended, with its beautifully presented food from Northeast Thailand; try the larb chicken and rice. Claypot Roast, offering roast duck and pork Chinese style, with rice and soup is also excellent. A fully licensed bar also makes delicious fresh juices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Freiya's is a family-run restaurant specializing in Indian cuisine, which draws on the traditions of Parsee cooking. The tables are set with white tablecloths and Indian-made silverware. The clientele varies, ranging from couples on a special night out to large Indian families. Meals are slightly unusual in taste but often familiar in style-meals like Lamb Rogan Josh are Parsee-style but still retain their traditional spicy flavor. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hot curry, cool surroundings |

Masala Cafe & Bar is a Ponsonby institution, and is still something of a novelty; a chic Indian café/restaurant. The decor is minimalist and clean, with lots of stainless steel edges and funky cow-hide seat covers. The curries are fantastic and come in varying degrees of "hotness" as specified by the customer. A fantastic Butter Chicken with side orders of naan bread, raita or pickles makes your mouth water. Masala is licensed and the wine and beverage list is extensive. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fit for a king |
2 Lorne Street Auckland 1001 New Zealand +64 (0)9 366 0885 |
Moghuls were the rulers of the Indian sub-continent, and the food here is indeed fit for a king. The walls are refreshingly free of flock wallpaper. There are seats by the bar, in the window alcoves and out in the small courtyard at the rear. This family-run restaurant offers authentic North Indian cuisine, driven, of course, by the Tandoor oven. The Butter Chicken is a favourite, as is the Lamb Rogan Josh. The restaurant is fully licensed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

An Indian experience |

You can watch your Naan bread cooking in the authentic Tandoori clay oven at Poppadom. They produce a full Tandoori menu, and offer an extensive vegetarian selection. Simple and intimate, the restaurant is tastefully dressed with traditional brasses, and rich woven fabrics. Lunch dishes feature salads, kebabs and chicken dishes. They do an appetizing mixed entree platter and the Dhal Makhani is creamy and delicious. A children's menu of "fish and chips" and the like is available. The more adventurous may enjoy the mild Chicken Korma. Review © 2007, Wcities |
