As the best food court in the city for cheap and authentic Asian food, Food Alley boasts 15 kitchens sharing a common dining area. It is a bit like eating in a converted car park--but you do not come here for the scenery. Food from all over Asia is on offer. Zap is recommended, with its beautifully presented food from Northeast Thailand; try the larb chicken and rice. Claypot Roast, offering roast duck and pork Chinese style, with rice and soup is also excellent. A fully licensed bar also makes delicious fresh juices.

Bright, colorful tablecloths and traditional wall hangings decorate the interior. The wooden and chrome are a nod towards contemporary urban style, and blend with the overall design. For an entree, try the Lucky Money Bags. Vegetable specialties include Gado Gado, noodles, and rice dishes. Mutiara is licensed.

+64 (0)9 358 3886 One of the longest-running, family-owned restaurants in central Auckland, Sri Pinang serves up marvelous Malaysian dishes at more than affordable prices. The tables are always clean and adorned with small vases of flowers, and the lights are always bright and cheerful. Regulars return again and again for the friendly service and the delightful atmosphere created by the owners. Malaysian, Indonesian and Singaporean dishes are all cooked authentically to suit all palates. The highly recommended Rendang Curry (chicken or beef) is hot and dry. Desserts are also served and will often be specially created for children.
