Spiritual and organic |
265 Ponsonby Road Ponsonby Auckland 1001 New Zealand +64 (0)9 376 2433 |
Expresso Love—a Ponsonby Road original—has a unique personality. The artworks and murals have a spiritual theme, and the emphasis is on healthy, organic food. Take your pick of areas to sit—the peaceful courtyard with Zen water feature; upstairs, with a bird's eye view of Ponsonby Road; or the middle eastern room for mellowing out. At night the cafe becomes "A.R.E.A. 265" with candlelight, art and music blending into a magical environment. The café is fully licensed and you may bring your own wine. Order food from plates on the bar or from the wall menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Vegetarian food has never been so interesting as at Musical Knives. With light ash-colored timber and green upholstery, it takes the clean, simplified line of decor in one of the older brick buildings in the area. Pavement seating is an option on warmer evenings. A private function area is available upstairs. The menu ranges widely with tastes originating from around the world. Mains include Organic Vegetable Tofu, Miso Rice Stir Fry, Fiorentina Lasagne, Organic Soba Noodles, pasta and salad. The drinks list focuses on organic wines, beers, and Japanese sake. Cheap n' cheerful Indian restaurant |
211 Karangahape Road Auckland 1001 New Zealand +64 (0)9 377 7780 |
Family-owned Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant is synonymous with exotic Indian cakes and sweets. Always clean and quick, it attracts an eclectic clientèle from all walks of life, from middle-aged hippies to young punks and Indian families looking for a quick meal. Order from the light-box wall menu. Portions are generous and the curries always flavorsome. Unlicensed, traditional Lassi yoghurt drinks are popular instead, as well as the usual soft drinks.
