Hot Spot On Town Lake |
920 West Riverside Drive Austin, TX 78712 United States |
There was a time when music from local musicians was free, and great Southern food was BBQ ed in the park. But those days are gone; the park is now used for concerts and firework celebrations on the Fourth of July. Located near the picturesque Town Lake and across from the old Palmer Auditorium, the venue is usually busy during summer. The name of Auditorium Shores is derived from its location along the shore of Town Lake. You will also find the Town Lake Hike, the Bike Trail, a gazebo and the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue. As one of Austin's favorite live music venues, this club holds around 3000 people. If that sounds like it is too large to get the intimate feel of a band, think again. The bar downstairs helps make the wait for a seat a little more relaxing and the VIP room upstairs is perfect for a great view of the stage. Everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Eric Clapton has performed on this stage. If you are looking for a location for a corporate event or fund-raiser, they do offer their facilities for private parties. If you are ready for that other long-haired music—the stuff of Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Chopin, that is—look no farther than Bass Concert Hall between September and April. The seasons here always offer illustrious performances of the great masters, as well as more recent works involving ballet and opera, avant-garde compositions and much more. Tickets can be obtained by subscribing to a season, and swapped for events of your choosing. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deemed Great By The Greats |
315 Congress Avenue Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 473-2279 http://www.natespace.com/eleph... |
If Austin-area jazz lovers feel ignored, it is justified; the local music scene, multi-faceted as it may be, has always neglected their genre of choice. However, what the region lacks in quantity, the Elephant Room more than makes up for in quality. It has been deemed as one of the ten finest venues in the country by none other than Wynton Marsalis (and subsequently honored by a unanimous resolution of the Texas Senate for having earned the jazz legend's admiration). The appeal stems largely from the club's unceasing lineup of regional favorites, touring greats, and, once in a while, plain ol' jam sessions consisting of anyone who cares to take the stage. Also known as "The Drum," this fantastic venue is host to some of the best performances in Austin. Although owned and operated by the University of Texas, academia is far from the list of performers. Primarily used for the University of Texas men's and women's basketball games, many of the large touring music shows also utilize this space. Everyone from Bob Dylan to Pavarotti to ZZ Top has graced this stage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Johnny Cash Bar |

If city parking is like rain on your downtown drinking parade, look no further than the Mean Eyed Cat on West 5th Street. The one-room, no-cover dive bar has an urban feel, but boasts a parking lot that would put Costco to shame. Built to honor the late great Johnny Cash, the Mean Eyed Cat has a crowded back patio and plenty of man-in-black collectibles. The Mean Eyed stage, featuring live music almost every night of the week, is popular with patrons of all ages. Order a shot at the bar to go down, down, down into a burning ring of fire. Classy venue |
7701 Bee Caves Rd Austin, TX 78746 United States +1 512 330 9500 http://www.oneworldtheatre.org |
This auditorium has a 300-seat capacity and fills a gap in the local arts scene for a smaller, elegant venue for music, dance and theatre performances. State-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, a mezzanine and a raised stage mean that every seat is a good one. It's part of the Barton Creek Arts Center, an entire complex dedicated to the arts, education and environment. Located on a hillside overlooking picturesque tree canopies and streams, it's about ten minutes from downtown. The theater is the brainchild of One World, a local non-profit arts organization. Upscale jazz club |
300 Colorado St Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 495 6504 http://www.sullivansteakhouse.... |
Located next door to the fabulous steak house Sullivan's, this high-class jazz club has all the fixin's for a fabulous evening. Live music and a full service bar are only the beginning of the amenities offered at this establishment. This place is where one goes to see and be seen. Prices reflect the pocketbooks that walk through the door. Part of the draw is the ambiance, the other is the selection. The wines from around the world and scotch that can only be found in Scotland are favorites of the regulars. Review © 2007, Wcities |
