Austin Music Hall

Local and national acts
208 Nueces
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 263 4240
http://www.austinmusichall.com
As one of Austin's favorite live music venues, this club holds around 3000 people. If that sounds like it is too large to get the intimate feel of a band, think again. The bar downstairs helps make the wait for a seat a little more relaxing and the VIP room upstairs is perfect for a great view of the stage. Everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Eric Clapton has performed on this stage. If you are looking for a location for a corporate event or fund-raiser, they do offer their facilities for private parties.

Desperado's

Tejano boot-scooting
9515 North Lamar Blvd
Suite 200
Austin, TX 78758
United States
+1 512 834 2640
http://www.desperadosaustin.com/
Not all of the finer dance-spots are located on or near Sixth Street. This Tejano-style nightclub features a cavernous dance floor, $1.50 longneck beers on most nights (only 50 cents on Wednesdays), and 75-cent margaritas, to lubricate a good mood before and after the workout you will get amongst the dancers. The bucking bronco on the logo outside pretty much tells you what to expect. Leave your tuxedo at home, dress casually, and show up expecting to have a laid-back good time.

East 6th Street

Entertainment district
E 6th St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 478 0098 (Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau)
One of the first streets surveyed in Austin, Sixth was originally known as Pecan Street. During the day, shops, restaurants and historic buildings are the main attraction, but by night, the street becomes festive with live music, shows and special events. On Friday and Saturday nights, the blocks are closed to automobile traffic for an all-out street party. Stop by for a beer or a show, or just enjoy watching the eclectic nightlife of Austin. After the bars close at 2a, this can be a dangerous place to hang out alone.

Headbangers' bar
720 Red River Street
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 236 9820
http://www.headhuntersclub.com/
Austin takes its music seriously, and one of the establishments championing rock is Headhunters Tiki Bar. Enter and you'll have as many Tiki masks make eye contact with you as people. A premier venue for the heaviest rock bands around, the Headhunters Tiki Bar promotes live acts 7 days a week, on both their stages(one indoors, one out). It can get a bit chaotic when two bands play simultaneously, but it happens only on the off chance. There's no cover to enter, except on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. So find your place between the fluorescent Tiki heads and head-bang away!

Dig into the succulent sizzler's, salads, soups, barbecues; the wine list is endless and the menu includes both lunch and dinner. Karma Lounge

Human aquarium
119 West 8th Street
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 469 0504
Karma Lounge is one of the most happening hangouts in Austin. With room names like the Shag room and the Candle room, bedecked in sensuous tones and candles (of course), it is a nightclub to lose one's self and one's inhibitions. There is something happening here everyday of the week; a live DJ event or the bustling Wednesday nights, which are dedicated to women. One of the main attractions at this lounge is the human aquarium - see it to believe it!

Momo's Club

Jazz/swing/rockabilly club
618 W 6th St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 479 8848
http://www.momosclub.com
Austin's Top of the Marc was a well-known and loved club, above the ever-popular Katz's Deli, that served the harder drinks. Then suddenly, it changed its look and name practically overnight. There's a great stage for swing, jazz and rockabilly bands of all sizes to play on, with a dance floor perfect for large groups. One half of the bar is a patio to sit out and enjoy a warm Austin night. The inside of the bar is dark, with black walls and a grey, stone floor. The dress code seems to be a step above casual, but it's Austin, so really, anything goes. Domestic and imported beer is available. Try a margarita from the machine or enjoy Happy Hour, which starts at 5p.

Austin, TX 78701
United States

More than a thousand people are packed in to Paradox on a regular weekend night. The crowd is young, the music is radio-friendly (the DJ mixes are broadcast on a radio station live), the prices of drinks low and the environment is safe. They are also the first to bring foam parties to Austin. Thursdays are college nights, which means there's no cover charge and Fridays are ladies night.

Upscale jazz club

http://www.sullivansteakhouse....
Located next door to the fabulous steak house Sullivan's, this high-class jazz club has all the fixin's for a fabulous evening. Live music and a full service bar are only the beginning of the amenities offered at this establishment. This place is where one goes to see and be seen. Prices reflect the pocketbooks that walk through the door. Part of the draw is the ambiance, the other is the selection. The wines from around the world and scotch that can only be found in Scotland are favorites of the regulars.

Soho Lounge

Hip, classy bar with dancefloor
217 E 6th St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 472 1916
One of the classiest bars on Sixth Street, this longer rather than wider bar lets you sit and gaze at passers-by or fellow patrons. The lighting is extremely attractive, generating a genuine New York feel. You will enjoy sitting in one of the high-arched cushioned booths and catching glances of fellow patrons from the mirrored walls. The bar has an excellent music selection. If it is not too busy, play a round of pool or head upstairs to the dance floor.

Spiros

Upscale dance club
611 Red River St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 472 4272
This hot spot has been voted best dance club and best new nightclub by the Austin Nightclub and Bar Association. An in-house DJ spins records throughout the week as the music pumps out into the street, enticing patrons to step inside. The large interior is elegant with chandeliers and dark, polished wood everywhere. It caters to a dressier crowd than most downtown bars. The full bar specializes in all versions of the martini, from classic to creative, and offers frequent drink specials.

Vicci

Vicci Conquers
404 Colorado St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 476 7799
http://www.vicciaustin.com/
Heralded as sporting the hottest dance club in Austin, go to Vicci for Vegas-themed trendy, wall-to-wall action. Although the line is often long, it's worth the wait. Vicci boasts 5 bars in 10,000 square feet, a VIP area and the Di Lusso Lounge below. The drinks can be a bit pricey, and the staff have a reputation for being "curt", but if you want to dance and be seen in the Warehouse District's busiest spot, look no further.

Voodoo Room

High energy, dark
318 E 5th St
Austin, TX 78741
United States
+1 512 477 1641
A bright-red ball of fire with the club's name posted in the core of the inferno stands out like a sore thumb through the dark alley between Fifth and Sixth streets. That is where you enter this dark dance club, often crowded with young, energetic college kids. Wednesday night is High Energy House night, with DJ's spinning tracks in battles over who has the best breaks and trance grooves. Thursday night features a live, local rock band. Ages eighteen and over are allowed on both nights. Retro night lands on any given Friday and can often be crowded. There are pool tables to play on while listening to the impressive sound system.
