Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - South Lamar

Movies, Food & Beer
1120 S. Lamar Boulevard
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 476 1320
http://www.drafthouse.com
Have you always wanted to enjoy a cold beer at the movies? You can here. In fact, you will find a nice selection of both domestic and imported beers, as well as wines and champagnes. The libations help you wash down the tasty pizzas, chicken wings or cheese- and salsa-smothered nachos as you take in a flick. Children at least 6 years of age can accompany their parents; patrons must ordinarily be at least 18 to attend on their own. The theater features mostly independent films. See website for showtimes, ticketing info, menus, special event calendar, merchandise and more.

Billy's on Burnet

Be yourself
2105 Hancock Drive
Austin, TX 78756
United States
+1 512 407 9305
http://www.billysonburnet.com/
Billy's on Burnet is your around the corner friendly neighborhood beer and burger hangout. A place to kick back, let your hair down and sip the local brews which go great with the chicken wings and fries. That doesn't mean that the food here is worth a pass. Billy's on Burnet are partial to burgers, with the Ends and the Schults being named after a local band and their lead singer(no clue about Reuben the sandwich). The daily lunch specials have regular names like meatballs and meatloaf, but standing out is The Vegetarian. Amongst the fans, the football freaks and the kind who love their laptop, even those standing out blend in well. That's Billy's for you.

Crown & Anchor

Frat party, almost
2911, San Jacinto Boulevard
Austin, TX 78705
United States
+1 512 322 9168
Walking into the Crown & Anchor is like walking into the University of Texas boathouse. The 5 HD screens showcasing games, burgers and fries and a good selection of beer make the pub a popular hangout amongst college students and professors too. For the wagering kind, there's the dartboard and pool tables to win a few bucks. If you don't worry about parking or about noisy pubs (there's no such thing as a quiet pub!), spend an evening at this unofficial Austin Institution.

Close to the University of Texas campus, this traditional English pub somehow was transplanted in far away Austin. If you are longing for the mother country come enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and the great selections of beer. This bar is a favorite meeting place for many graduate students and serious beer drinkers. It remains one of the best places to throw darts, sink down a Bass ale and grab some pub food. Happy hour is observed daily 3p-7p and all day on Thursdays. During happy hour, you may enjoy $3.50 pints or $4 Guinness.

Jackalope

Where the Misfits rock to Misfits
404, East 6th Street
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 472 3663
http://www.jackalopeaustin.com
No other bar in recent memory has managed to so monopolize the patronage of Austin's tattoos-and-piercings crowd than has Jackalope, which caters to the unsubtle sensibilities of its otherwise neglected customer base by way of Reagan-era punk rock on the stereo, tragi-comic b-movies on the TVs, and velvet paintings of topless women on the walls. Aside from serving as Sixth Street's most prominent de facto refugee camp for Black Flag fans, Jackalope is otherwise known for its burgers, regarded by many denizens of the downtown area as the best in the neighborhood – and the Wednesday two-for-one burger deals make these the best bargains in the city.

Austin, TX 78703
United States

If city parking is like rain on your downtown drinking parade, look no further than the Mean Eyed Cat on West 5th Street. The one-room, no-cover dive bar has an urban feel, but boasts a parking lot that would put Costco to shame. Built to honor the late great Johnny Cash, the Mean Eyed Cat has a crowded back patio and plenty of man-in-black collectibles. The Mean Eyed stage, featuring live music almost every night of the week, is popular with patrons of all ages. Order a shot at the bar to go down, down, down into a burning ring of fire.

T.C.'s Lounge

The Real Austin Blues Scene
1413, Webberville Road
Austin, TX 78721
United States
+1 512 926 2200
T.C.'s Lounge is one of the few remaining landmarks of the Austin music scene that has yet to succumb to the expansive growth of the city. This bar has been a long revered hot-spot for local blues musicians and music lovers. They have brought in famous local bands such as the Leghounds, which has helped to increase their popularity. They are a beer only bar but do offer set-ups to those patrons who wish to bring their own liquor. If looking for a uniquely cultural experience in the Austin blues scene, then T.C.'s Lounge is certainly the place for you. -Nicholas Van Zandt
