Fresh and Fishy |
1716 South Congress Street Austin, TX 78704 United States +1 512 383 8877 |
For lovers of seafood, the search ends right here. Freshwater fish and shellfish from all over the world is available, undoubtedly fresh and cooked in traditional home-style recipes. You have a choice of sauces and you can even select the method in which you want your meal to be cooked. The wine selection is limited but local favorites are available. At 7, it's dining in a democratic way, where your inputs count right from the pan to the plate. Bon Appetit! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Songwriter/singer paradise |
24th St & Guadalupe University of Texas Campus Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 475 6515 http://www.utexas.edu/student/... |
Located on the UT campus, this small dark cavern is a singer/songwriter paradise. The venue attracts local artists as well as nationally recognized ones. Acoustic combos also play here. The Cafe is rather small, so the acoustics are great and the audience is filled with both devoted music fans and the university crowd. It can be difficult to find; call ahead for walking directions on campus. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This cozy little club is located on Guadalupe just north of the main University of Texas at Austin campus, and is an Austin favorite. Steeped in the city's music history, live bands play regularly and the stage has hosted several musicians who went on to achieve fame. You can usually find a good student turnout as well as the regular band scene. Call ahead to see who is playing. Sunday nights are free. During the day you will find a menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads and more & more dash; all at reasonable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Storied Stomping Grounds for Sucking Suds |
2538, Guadalupe St. Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 472 5599 http://www.holeinthewallaustin... |
With its little stage having played host to some big names over the decades, Hole in the Wall has long been regarded as one of the city's most storied venues; today, it mostly serves as a launching pad for local up-and-comers ranging in size and genre from 9-piece bluegrass bands to individual singer-songwriters. And although the nature of the crowd itself is subject to similarly sudden shifts (this often being a function of the performing schedule), the bar's proximity to UT brings in a steady flow of students and associated youngsters, most of whom come in for pitchers of Shiner and Lone Star. -Barrett Brown Review © 2007, Wcities |

Coffee or beer near UT |
2908 Fruth St Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 480 9562 http://www.spiderhousecafe.com |
The Spider House, located close to UT, is an unusual establishment open from breakfast until late night. Largely populated by students in search of coffee drinks, light food and solitude by day, this quiet spot gets decidedly more upbeat at night when beer and wine are the more common fare. Based in an old house complete with wooden floors and wrap-around porch, the interior is comfortable and serene with tables and chairs for lounging. Outside, there is a fabulous patio with strings of festive lights and mismatched funky furniture. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Neighborhood bar, central |
409 W 30th St Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 477 2935 http://www.trudys.com |
The neighborhood bar and patio at Trudy's Texas Star is a staple for Austinites. Do not miss their signature drink, the Mexican Martini, easily the best in town. Served in a cocktail shaker, this cross between a margarita and a martini is so potent that there is a two-drink limit. Happy hour, all day Mon and Tue-Sat 2pm-7pm, features rotating specials. Upstairs you'll find an excellent Mexican restaurant. Two other venues (8820 Burnet Rd and 4141 Capital of Texas Highway) offer the same menu but lack the spirit of the central location.
