Euro-Asian fusion |
2712 Bee Caves Road Austin, TX 78746 United States +1 512 328 8888 http://www.bistro88.com |
Fusion food rises above its label at this Westlake eatery. The marriage of European and Asian cuisine, is all the rage, but here it actually fuses, rather than flops. From the first glance, the decor is comfortable, but elegant, with tasteful touches of Asian art and design. Must-haves include the Hot and Sour Gumbo and the Rack of Lamb, served with Japanese eggplant, Asian pasta and vegetables. It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of flavors, so take it slow. Each meal is a study in contrasts and while east may not meet west seamlessly, they do have a good time together. Melting pot of fine food |
1101 W Fifth St Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 476 0728 http://www.castlehillcafe.com |
The menu at Castle Hill Cafe defies categorization at this eclectic spot. Asian, Southwestern, Caribbean and European cuisines are blended to create unusual dishes that stimulate your sense of adventure as well as your palate. Lucinda's Basil Cheese Torta is an old favorite, and so is the Sausage and Duck Gumbo. For something new and different, try the Firecracker Shrimp Fettuccini. Some entrees are offered without meat for vegetarians. The menu changes every few weeks as the chefs try out new creations. New menu items are updated on the restaurant's Web site. Hidden Dragon |

With places like Maiko, Kyoto and Kenichi, one certainly isn't starved for sushi choices in Austin. It's easy to overlook Dragon Gate, but don't pass up this Phoenix Pai restaurant as easily. The touchstone of a good sushi restaurant is its Hamachi, and Dragon Gate executes it with finesse. The traditional Japanese and Chinese specials are praiseworthy, and the Tepanyaki bar adds to the contemporary chic aesthetic. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Perfect cure for a cold!! |
2514 Guadalupe Street Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 472 8306 http://www.madammam.com/ |
This Asian joint is usually crowded with university students. The food is served on curved plates and colorful chopsticks. Chef's specialties include Tom Kha Chicken Soup with coconut milk, ginger and mushrooms. And the extremely spicy Cha Catfish will definitely help those with a cold. You must try the signature Pad Thai with large succulent shrimp and smoked diced tofu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nothing to do with Geisha |
311, West 6th Street Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 236 9888 http://www.maikoaustin.com/ |
Maiko, a part sushi/part martini restaurant helps break the stereotype of the rigid Japanese sushi chef. The lounge and bar at Maiko serves fusion cocktails like the Sake and Wasabi Martinis and the menu is no less. Prepared by chef Fumi, it's an amalgamation of eastern precision for the western palette. The decor at Maiko reflects this cross cultural harmony equally well; also the occasional DJ spinning grooves, something you won't find at a sushi bar talks of it. Perfect for an evening for two or for an after office drink with your pals. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Spicy fusion dining |
1400 S Congress Ave Austin, TX 78704 United States +1 512 472 3901 http://www.marsaustin.com |
Spicy food from a variety of origins makes dining in this place a taste-tempting treat. Try the Tea-Smoked Duck, which is finished in a clay oven, or, for something more traditional, the Tandoori Chicken. The buzz about Mars would not be complete, however, without a mention of the Rice Paper Fish which is the catch of the day cooked in rice paper with whatever combination of herbs, spices and vegetables that strikes the mood of the chef. The results are typically fantastic. If you feel adventurous, try the spicy Thai-style noodles. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Inexpensive Vietnamese cuisine |
215 East Sixth St Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 236 8878 |
This is a consistently excellent Vietnamese restaurant with an extensive menu of reasonably priced entrees. Located in a roomy, two-story space in the middle of the bar and live music district, it is simply decorated with high ceilings and a small waiting area. It serves a variety of Pho (noodle soup), vermicelli and rice dishes topped with grilled or stir-fried meat and vegetables. No alcoholic beverages are served, but the Vietnamese coffee, iced or hot, is not to be missed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Southeast Asian cuisine for every palate |
3202 West Anderson Lane Suite 205 Austin, TX 78757 United States +1 512 467 6731 http://www.satayusa.com |
Satay is not just a restaurant. It's also the name of this restaurant's specialty - thinly-sliced marinated meat on skewers grilled and served with spicy sauces and cucumber salad. It's a dish of choice in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Try Satay with pork, beef, chicken, shrimp or vegetables. The master chef here (who has appeared with Dom De Luis in TV cooking programs) uses absolutely no MSG, and only vegetable and canola oils. Die-hard vegetarians revel in the vegetarian buffets on the first and third Sundays of each month. The restaurant also packages amazing sauces and salsas. Pick up 16-ounces of any sauce or salsa from a wide selection (including spicy peanut and ginger sweet and sour). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chinese food with a touch of class |
7858 Shoal Creek Boulevard Austin, TX 78757 United States +1 512 302 4600 http://www.suzischinagrill.com |
Upon entering, you will be struck by the softness of the place. The lighting and decor creates an ambiance that is both comfortable and classy. The food is tasty and unique, and the service is impeccable, especially since it is Suzi herself who actually delivers the food to your table. The Sesame Chicken is a house favorite and you can tailor the degree of spiciness of any dish to your taste. As an appetizer, try the Hot and Sour soup. Loaded with different types of seafood and a touch of pepper, you will be pleasantly surprised at its flavor. Review © 2007, Wcities |

T & S is very popular for its authentic Chinese and Asian cuisine. The chic ambience and friendly service put you in the mood for some fun. Pick your Tilapia from the tank or try the Salt and Paper Shrimp. The Dim-Sum served here during lunch hours is divine and Shell Crabs are something all visitors must try. In short, this place serves fresh seafood at reasonable prices. This place is always flooded with locals, hence reservation is advisable. Parking facility is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Thai food with personality |
3009 Guadalupe St Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 474 2575 |
If spice is what you are looking for, this is the place. Thai Kitchen is one of the best places in Austin to liven up your taste buds with some unusual ethnic fare. The extensive menu denotes the degree of spice in each dish (fried curry rice to vermicelli stir-frys) and the four-pepper dishes will have you drinking more water than usual. Highly recommended, the Ba Mi Num soup, made with chicken broth, ginger, cilantro, lime, bean sprouts and your choice of meat, is a pleasant way to cure the sniffles. And although the wait staff seems a little gruff at times, it may be because the place is so packed, but do not let that stop you. This is a great place for anyone seeking a nice, hot bowl of something tasty. Review © 2007, Wcities |
