Tex-Mex favorite |
1616 West Fifth Street Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 474 1222 http://www.ditch.com/ |
If there is a wait at this popular restaurant, order a classic margarita or a 'floater' and dip into the chips and hot sauce and/or queso. Before long, you will be addressing a plate full of the Tex-Mex standard of your choice. Or try any of the variations on barbecued chicken-the chalupas of this variety are especially tasty. Entrees make this a fairly inexpensive spot, provided you do not get carried away on the margaritas. The atmosphere is fun and lively, and El Arroyo has a sense of humor: Just check out the pointedly witty billboard out front, with daily commentary on politics and more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Inside this converted cozy cottage is an intimate French restaurant voted 'Most Romantic Atmosphere' by the Austin Chronicle. Candlelight, hardwood floors, ceiling fans and a collection of small dining rooms complete the picture. Each dish fuses Traditional French methods with contemporary flavors, and is made from scratch by owner/Chef Paul Constantine utilizing fresh, seasonal ingredients. The menu and wine list change frequently. The wait staff is attentive and can help you select the perfect wine to accompany your meal. Be sure to save room for one of Cafe Caprice's signature desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Caribbean fusion |
1200-B West Sixth Street Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 322 9226 http://www.cafejosie.com |
Ensconced behind a charming art gallery on West Sixth is this jewel of a Caribbean cafe. Established in 1997, Café Josie is still piquing the taste-buds of Austin diners. With an intimate dining room and an enclosed patio, the atmosphere is casual, but the food is out of this world. Chicken, beef and seafood, all cooked to a turn and spiced up with the zesty flavors of the islands; it is a step above your typical "fusion" restaurant. Try the Honey Chipotle Shrimp served on Cotija Black Beans and Poblano Rice, with Green Chile Polenta, Manchego Cheese, and Ancho Chile as an entree. The Blackberry Ginger Crisp is a fitting end to the meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine dining mainstay |
1204 West Lynn Street Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 477 5584 |
This Clarksville restaurant, opened in 1975, manages to stay on Austin's dining forefront because of the innovative cuisine created by chef David Garrido. Begin with one of his signature appetizers, perhaps Oysters on Yucca Root Chips with Habanero-Honey Aioli, follow with a Latin-American inspired entree such as Lamb with Orange Flan and Guajillo Mole, and top it off with a Lemon Cajeta Ice Box Cake. The menu is imaginative, the execution perfect, the service professional and the atmosphere comfortably elegant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nau & Forever |
1115 West Lynn Street Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 476 1221 |
A recipient of the Preservation Merit Award (2006), Nau's Enfield Drug has existed since the early 30s. Pharmacist Lambert Labay purchased the store from founders Hylton and Eleanor Nau and has maintained the church pew booths and wooden bar stools. The most treasured relic here is the soda fountain that dispenses the ubiquitous home made malts and shakes. The burgers and sandwiches are also great value for money. Made from fresh ground beef and grilled just right, the buns are topped with melting cheese. It's easy to forget, Nau's Enfield Drug is first and foremost a drugstore! Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Shoal Creek Saloon is a sports bar that serves great Cajun food. The gumbos are good, the burgers are meaty and you can pick any seafood item cooked creole style. The Shoal Creek Saloon also has daily specials for lunch and dinner. If you're into catfish, crawfish or shrimp, try the po'boys. Better yet, make yourself comfortable with the all-you-can-eat catfish lunch buffet and the coinciding happy hour. The TVs always have a game on; the Shoal Creel Saloon also features live bands. Perfect for a guys night out or lunch with the family. Review © 2007, Wcities |
