A maelstrom of taste |
606 Rio Grande Street Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 479 8117 http://www.aquarellerestaurant... |
Everything about this restaurant reeks of style and grace, so it's no wonder that it offers the finest of French cuisine. The dining area is done up in shades of white, cream and subtle upholstery. Chef Jacques Richard uses only the finest ingredients and has created an a la carte selection. The menu is seasonal but the beautiful presentation of the food is a mainstay of the restaurant. It's not everyday that one comes across takeaway gourmet French cuisine, but trust Bistro Le Marseillaise. After a dozen years at Chez Nous, the intrepid Pelegrin duo decided to become captains of their own kitchen. The unique Bistro Le Marseillaise was thus created. The online menu provides all you need to know. Delivery days are area specific and free for orders exceeding USD23. The Bistro Le Marseillaise only accepts cheques(neatly sealed in a plastic baggy, submerged in an ice cooler and kept in plain view outside your door). Hmmm. If James Bond could cook a great galantine de poulet, he'd be called Eric Pelegrin. Review © 2007, Wcities |

French bistro |
510 Neches St Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 473 2413 |
With fusion food on the rise and the word "bistro" thrown around willy-nilly, it is comforting to find an authentic one of the French variety. Homemade pate, roasted chicken and crepes, wonderfully executed and served in a cozy, dimly lit dining room dominated by a long bar. Rich, toothsome dishes such as Escalopes de Veau aux Noix can be accompanied by an appropriately Gallic wine from the well-populated wine list. Try the Salade Chez Nous, and do not miss the Crepe du Jour. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The French seem to be inspiring the folks in Austin. If the Bistro Le Marseillaise is an out-of-the-box concept, well, Flip Happy Crêpes is an inside-an-Airstream concept. Operating out of a trailer parked off South Lamar Boulevard, the menu has sweet and savory crêpes for all tastes and a mini crêpe and nutella roll up for the kids. Flip Happy also serves tea, coffee and sodas and have a seating area with tables on the lawn. This is one place, even the French will admit, where the crêpes are as good as back home. This restaurant is decorated as a French cafe in the countryside and the patriarchal owner of this chain really does hail from France. Many of the recipes come from owner Patrick Esquerre's mother's recipe box. The Tomato Basil Soup is a big favorite during fall and winter; use it to start a meal of quiche, Roasted Chicken, wood-fired pizzas or simply a Caesar Salad. Breakfast is also served daily, and includes both hot items and pastries, along with the restaurant's signature French Roast coffee. In desserts, try Ann's Cake, an Almond Croissant or a Pecan Tart.
