Fresh and creative Italian dishes |
408C East 43rd Street Austin, TX 78751 United States +1 512 451 1218 http://www.astiaustin.com |
Located in the heart of Hyde Park, this classy Italian restaurant will dazzle your taste buds. The decor is modern with contemporary features. Large windows allow light to shine in and give warmth to the space. It is upscale, clean and comfortable, with dimmed lighting in the evening. Start with the Oven Roasted Mussels spiced with white wine, tomato and garlic. Or try the Semolina Fried Calamari, served with its own special sauce. The restaurant offers a selection of pizzas including a White Pizza with truffle oil mozzarella, fontina and provolone cheese with fried sage leaves. Another favorite is the Grilled Eggplant Pizza with fontina & oregano. Main dishes include several pasta and meat selections. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gourmet pizza, beer and wine |
6266 Highway 290 W Austin, TX 78735 United States +1 512 891 9980 |
The owners of this family-operated restaurant near the "Y" at Oak Hill previously ran a pizzeria voted the best in Indianapolis for 13 consecutive years. Their experience shows, as folks come for miles to try their authentic New York-style pizza. The century-old historic stone building is hard to miss, with a classic interior best described as casual, family-style Italian. The extensive menu offers a long line of signature pizzas, with Mexican, Hawaiian, Texas, and Greek varieties alongside familiar Italian pies. Also available are great salads, lasagna, stromboli and sandwiches overflowing with Italian meats and cheeses. A list of domestic and imported beer and vintage wine rounds out the selection. Italians in Austin |
6507, Jester Boulevard Austin, TX 78750 United States +1 512 346 8228 http://www.bellagioitalianbist... |
The one problem in Austin is the lack of immigrant Italians and fine authentic Italian cuisine. The Bellagio has taken care of both. It may be in a strip mall of sorts, but don't be fooled. Step into the spacious restaurant; a look at the elegant art and sculpture that fill the interior would tell you that Bellagio is definitely upscale. Try the risotto or the calamari Bellagio, accompanied by a host of wines and you'll know you're in Little Italy. The Happy Hour at Bellagio has appetizers at half the normal price, but why taste just the icing when you can have the whole cake? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Casual pizza and pasta |
1608 West 35th St Austin, TX 78703 United States +1 512 453 4330 http://www.brickovenll.citysea... |
This cozy Italian spot in a renovated house turns out some of the best pizza in the city. But the full menu of pastas and appetizers make this more than a pizzeria. The copper oven is still central to the experience, even if pasta is what you order: Wonderful, crusty breads are served with pepper-spiked olive oil for dipping, and the smell of pizza baking in the wood oven permeates the place. Ravioli is a crowd-pleaser, and so are all the pizza varieties. Lunch specials give Italian lovers no excuse for passing this place by. Incidentally, this restaurant is owned by the founder of the original Brick Oven on Red River, which is now a franchise. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Southern Italian delight! |
3612 Tudor Boulevard Austin, TX 78759 United States +1 512 342 8462 http://www.bucadibeppo.com/ |
Buca di Beppo is the place to be if one is searching for good, authentic Italian food. The food as well as the decor is very much Italian in style. Once settled, order from the large Italian fare, that comprises of dishes such as insalate portofino, chicken pesto, chicken parmigiana or ravioli al pomodoro. There are also a variety of salads and pizzas. The place is inspired by the village tradition, so the servings are comparatively large. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Inside this converted cozy cottage is an intimate French restaurant voted 'Most Romantic Atmosphere' by the Austin Chronicle. Candlelight, hardwood floors, ceiling fans and a collection of small dining rooms complete the picture. Each dish fuses Traditional French methods with contemporary flavors, and is made from scratch by owner/Chef Paul Constantine utilizing fresh, seasonal ingredients. The menu and wine list change frequently. The wait staff is attentive and can help you select the perfect wine to accompany your meal. Be sure to save room for one of Cafe Caprice's signature desserts. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Whether for a deal-making business lunch or romantic dinner date, this upscale Italian spot proves worthy. The service is impeccable, but warm, matching the inviting atmosphere of stone, wood and soft lighting. Start with the Combination Antipasto for a variety of delectable tastes. As for entrees, the Steak Diane, is enough to impress anyone, while the Salmon Ravioli is a subtler pleasure. Then linger over espresso and dessert. You will not want the experience to end. Sicilian Recipes, Sinatra Qualities |
508, West Avenue Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 472 3534 |
The whole "fellow obtaining an old family recipe and deciding to found a restaurant around it" thing is a common enough narrative within the dining world; in the case of Frank and Angie's, though, the fellow in question is Mike Hutchinson, co-founder of the eternally popular Hut's Hamburgers as well as the fortunate offspring of a Sicilian mother named Angie (the "Frank" is for Sinatra, whose picture presides over the festivities and whose various nicknames manifest themselves in the form of menu items). In defiance of the Austin area's college-fueled pizza saturation, Frank and Angie's has fought its way to the top of the pack with its unique, New York-style pizza, ingredient-intensive calzones, and a general Brooklyn-esque atmosphere. Upscale restaurant |
106 East 6th Street Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 476 1997 http://www.louies106.net |
This is an anomaly in Austin's laid-back and relaxed culture: a sophisticated, urban, upscale restaurant. The atmosphere is elegant, yet cozy; relaxed, yet full of energy. The wine list is encyclopedic, and the menu is a blend of tapas, pastas and other Mediterranean dishes, including such classics as Seafood Risotto Paella and Bouillabaisse. There is a fresh fish special daily, as well as a special vegetarian offering. The Beef Filet is a delectable choice for meat-lovers; also try the Broiled Lamb Loin. But save room for dessert - it has some of the best in town. Private dining rooms are available for parties or business dinners, and a cigar-and-cognac room adds a nice touch. Slick Italian style |
9901 Capital of Texas Highway Suite 150 Austin, TX 78759 United States +1 512 342 7977 |
An interior, this slick should be the backdrop for equally sophisticated food, and this Mezzaluna Gateway, incarnation of the downtown favorite does not disappoint. A different menu here ensures that the experience is not a clone. Traditional favorites such as fried calamari ($6.50) and lasagna are served alongside more ambitious dishes, such as risotto, veal and lamb. Pizzas and appetizers are available in the downstairs bar, which is often packed with people-watchers on weekends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This restaurant is billed as "Italian food with an attitude" and serves excellent dishes at a reasonable price. The menu is a combination of the classic and the imaginative, with appetizers like grilled portabella mushrooms, and entrees like gourmet pizzas and "angry pasta" ;fettuccine with white wine sauce, ham, tomatoes and mushrooms. Several seafood items are also available. Expect a typical meal with a glass of wine. As far as the atmosphere, think elegant yet unpretentious. Review © 2007, Wcities |

6203 North Capital of Texas Highway Building B Austin, TX 78731 United States +1 512 349 7667 http://www.sienarestaurant.com |
The restaurant, nestled at the base of Mount Bonnell, is housed within an exquisite stone building fashioned after the farmhouses of the Italian countryside. Once inside, the menu is equally inviting, consisting of traditional yet creative Tuscan dishes with a special focus on roasted game. One signature dish is Pappardelle Pasta with Wild Boar. Provincial soups, breads, and desserts are abundant, and there is also a five-course menu available. The selection of Italian wines is especially extensive. It is currently quite a popular destination, and the clientele generally arrives in business or evening attire appropriate for fine dining. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian Food Invades the East Side |
1917 Manor Road Austin, TX 78722 United States +1 512 391 9500 http://stortini-austin.com/ |
Manor Road's crowded collection of East Austin Tex-Mex restaurants and comfort food joints has a new Italian neighbor. Opened in 2007, Stortini is the latest attempt to bring old world-style cuisine to central Texas. The ristorante features a casual, low-lit dining room and a breezy back patio with quaint four tops and a friendly wait staff. The pasta is made in-house and the desserts are nothing short of decadent (even if the portions are on the small side). If you're in the mood for a hearty meal, try their fresh seafood-filled Spaghetti Pescatore or the 'shroom lovers' Papardelle and Marsala Mushrooms. For lighter fare, go with the chicken parmesan panini or an antipasti plate of steamed Saffron Mussels. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Taste of Italy |

Anchoring the west end of the 2nd Street District is Taverna, a casual, upscale Italian bistro with a diverse menu and friendly wait staff. The restaurant serves a variety of classic Italian dishes (try the homemade porcini lasagna), but pays particular attention to contemporary cuisine. Taverna offers fresh seafood and hand-rolled thin crust pizza classica, as well as an impressive array of risotto dishes. Start with the chef's focaccia in rosemary olive oil and end with the Taverna tiramisu. Enjoy your meal as you people-watch on their well-placed patio, or eat indoors for a more elegant atmosphere. The eatery is an ideal downtown stop for a big meal with family or a light antipasti at lunch. -Sarah Murray Review © 2007, Wcities |
