Hidden Dragon |
3801 North Capital of Texas Highway Suite J180, Davenport Village Shopping Center Austin, TX 78746 United States +1 512 732 7278 |
With places like Maiko, Kyoto and Kenichi, one certainly isn't starved for sushi choices in Austin. It's easy to overlook Dragon Gate, but don't pass up this Phoenix Pai restaurant as easily. The touchstone of a good sushi restaurant is its Hamachi, and Dragon Gate executes it with finesse. The traditional Japanese and Chinese specials are praiseworthy, and the Tepanyaki bar adds to the contemporary chic aesthetic. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional Japanese cuisine |
315 Congress Ave Suite 200 Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 482 0903 |
A sushi bar provides counter seating for those who want to watch the chefs do their work, transforming fresh seafood and other ingredients into sushi, sashimi, yakitori and kushiyaki. Alongside the bar, there is Western-style table service. But in a separate dining room, you can go completely traditional and sit on tatami mats at low tables. Either way, the food is fresh and authentic. Try the kushiyaki (skewered, charcoal-broiled meat and vegetables) as an accompaniment to your sushi, or get a seafood platter. And do not miss the light, crispy tempura. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nothing to do with Geisha |
311, West 6th Street Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 236 9888 http://www.maikoaustin.com/ |
Maiko, a part sushi/part martini restaurant helps break the stereotype of the rigid Japanese sushi chef. The lounge and bar at Maiko serves fusion cocktails like the Sake and Wasabi Martinis and the menu is no less. Prepared by chef Fumi, it's an amalgamation of eastern precision for the western palette. The decor at Maiko reflects this cross cultural harmony equally well; also the occasional DJ spinning grooves, something you won't find at a sushi bar talks of it. Perfect for an evening for two or for an after office drink with your pals. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This hidden treasure was rated one of the top 20 sushi restaurants in the nation by a guidebook for Japanese tourists. The traditional sushi and sashimi are served in an elegant, vibrant atmosphere. It also caters to the not-so-adventurous palate with tempura and teriyaki dishes. The sushi regular or deluxe platters are also offered with an all-cooked option. The 'Born in the USA' section of the menu offers various takes on the California roll and other American sushi hybrids. In addition, the Asparagus Roll is simply divine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Premium grade fish |
9503 Research Boulevard Austin, TX 78759-6538 United States +1 512 527 0888 |
Just northwest of downtown, located in Gateway Square, is one of the newest additions to a growing population of sushi restaurants in Austin. The decor is simple and modern in design, with muted browns and tans filling the color scheme. The ambiance from day to night is quite different. Daytime hours offer a casual atmosphere for business meetings or quick lunches. In the evening, candles light the dining area creating a relaxed environment. The curved sushi bar seats more than just a handful of people and the sushi chefs enjoy conversing with customers. If you do not see a sushi roll you are interested in on the menu, discuss what you are looking for with the sushi chefs and they will try to accommodate your needs. There is also an extensive Japanese menu, including a separate vegetarian section. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Japanese gem |
801 South Lamar Boulevard Austin, TX 78704-1509 United States +1 512 916 4808 http://www.uchiaustin.com/ |
Popularly known as the 'Japanese gem' and rated as one of the 'Top Five New Restaurants in Texas', Uchi is a very romantic restaurant with dim-lit lanterns. If you want some privacy, then the Sushi Bar is for you. In appetizers, try the Muscovy Duck and the Baby Bok Choy and Shiitake Mushrooms. Make sure you leave some place for desserts; the Chai Tea Creme Brulee is awesome. Reservation is a must. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Review © 2007, Wcities |
