Athens in Austin |
705, Colorado Street Austin, TX 78701 United States +1 512 482 8988 |
The remodeled Jean Luc's Bistro is now the Athenian Grill. Serving lunch (cafeteria style, ordering a la carte will take longer) and dinner, the restaurant has everything one would expect of a Greek grill. The mezze platter is well populated, with dolmades, spanakopita and tiropita and the lamb preparations are always a good choice. The entrées come with bread and salad. It does not have much to offer in terms of a wine list, apart from the Makedonikos Tsantali. The Athenian Grill serves an assortment of desserts. For those unsure, look around you; as they say, when in Austin, do as the Athenians . Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italians in Austin |
6507, Jester Boulevard Austin, TX 78750 United States +1 512 346 8228 http://www.bellagioitalianbist... |
The one problem in Austin is the lack of immigrant Italians and fine authentic Italian cuisine. The Bellagio has taken care of both. It may be in a strip mall of sorts, but don't be fooled. Step into the spacious restaurant; a look at the elegant art and sculpture that fill the interior would tell you that Bellagio is definitely upscale. Try the risotto or the calamari Bellagio, accompanied by a host of wines and you'll know you're in Little Italy. The Happy Hour at Bellagio has appetizers at half the normal price, but why taste just the icing when you can have the whole cake? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat with the Family, capiche? |
1310, Ranch Road 620 South Austin, TX 78734 United States +1 512 263 9936 http://www.ciolas.com/ |
Ciola's is a family owned restaurant, created in what used to be a home. The Ciola's have over 50 years of experience in the business, and with notable dishes like Aunt Alice's Spumoni and Domnick's Specials on the menu, you know it's all in the family. There are plenty of choices, from prosciutto, provolone and mortadella to house-made gnocchi. The wine selection of around 70 vintages has been bagging this restaurant 'The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence'. Ciola's Spumoni, in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry with nuts is the ideal dessert. Allora, mangiare bene! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Flavors of the Mediterranean |
2905, San Gabriel Street Austin, TX 78705 United States +1 512 474 2905 http://www.astiaustin.com/ |
The brains behind Asti probably got the inspiration for Fino when having a meal while perusing through an atlas. The cuisine is broadly categorized as Mediterranean but includes French, Spanish, Italian and Greek. This holds true for the wine list of around 90 labels as well, which include the staple French and Italian but also have vintages from Portugal and far away Australia. The tapas bar is a good bet as it lets you taste a bit of everything. Tuesdays are Spanish nights and Fino has Happy Hour everyday. Keep in mind, there are no rules: or maybe just one; come to Fino with an open mind and an empty stomach. Review © 2007, Wcities |
