Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - South Lamar

Movies, Food & Beer
1120 S. Lamar Boulevard
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 476 1320

Have you always wanted to enjoy a cold beer at the movies? You can here. In fact, you will find a nice selection of both domestic and imported beers, as well as wines and champagnes. The libations help you wash down the tasty pizzas, chicken wings or cheese- and salsa-smothered nachos as you take in a flick. Children at least 6 years of age can accompany their parents; patrons must ordinarily be at least 18 to attend on their own. The theater features mostly independent films. See website for showtimes, ticketing info, menus, special event calendar, merchandise and more.

Austin Pizza Garden

Gourmet pizza, beer and wine
6266 Highway 290 W
Austin, TX 78735
United States
+1 512 891 9980
The owners of this family-operated restaurant near the "Y" at Oak Hill previously ran a pizzeria voted the best in Indianapolis for 13 consecutive years. Their experience shows, as folks come for miles to try their authentic New York-style pizza. The century-old historic stone building is hard to miss, with a classic interior best described as casual, family-style Italian. The extensive menu offers a long line of signature pizzas, with Mexican, Hawaiian, Texas, and Greek varieties alongside familiar Italian pies. Also available are great salads, lasagna, stromboli and sandwiches overflowing with Italian meats and cheeses. A list of domestic and imported beer and vintage wine rounds out the selection.

Austin's Pizza

Locally owned pizzeria
800 West 12th St
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 474 8822
http://www.austinspizza.com
This downtown pizzeria prides itself on offering quality pies at bargain prices. Temporary coupons are never offered, just good deals all the time. For instance, a large four-topping pizza is $8.99, with a free two-liter bottle of Coca Cola thrown in. The shop insists on using fresh produce, quality meats, and a large selection of different cheeses. While primarily a delivery business without interior seating, there are picnic tables on the patio for those who wish to enjoy their pizza outdoors. No alcohol is served.

Brick Oven Restaurant

Casual pizza and pasta
1608 West 35th St
Austin, TX 78703
United States
+1 512 453 4330
http://www.brickovenll.citysea...
This cozy Italian spot in a renovated house turns out some of the best pizza in the city. But the full menu of pastas and appetizers make this more than a pizzeria. The copper oven is still central to the experience, even if pasta is what you order: Wonderful, crusty breads are served with pepper-spiked olive oil for dipping, and the smell of pizza baking in the wood oven permeates the place. Ravioli is a crowd-pleaser, and so are all the pizza varieties. Lunch specials give Italian lovers no excuse for passing this place by. Incidentally, this restaurant is owned by the founder of the original Brick Oven on Red River, which is now a franchise.

Conan's Pizza

Still Cheesy After All These Years
603, W 29th Street
Austin, TX 78705
United States
+1 512 478 5712
http://www.conanspizza.com
Having catered to West Campus residents for three decades, Conan's Pizza ranks among the handful of area establishments that have managed to develop themselves into de facto University of Texas institutions. Insomuch as that the pizzeria's unusual name stems from the underground comic book store that once existed next door and that its walls are decorated with material taken from same, Conan's also acts as a much-needed time capsule containing a taste of UT's inimitable early-'70s charms. Likewise, the offerings still revolve around cheese-clogged, Chicago-style deep dish pies topped with such rare pizza accompaniments as artichoke hearts and chicken fajita strips. Several varieties of salad are also on hand in order to help college kids keep up the pretense of balanced eating.

Frank and Angie's

Sicilian Recipes, Sinatra Qualities
508, West Avenue
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 472 3534
The whole "fellow obtaining an old family recipe and deciding to found a restaurant around it" thing is a common enough narrative within the dining world; in the case of Frank and Angie's, though, the fellow in question is Mike Hutchinson, co-founder of the eternally popular Hut's Hamburgers as well as the fortunate offspring of a Sicilian mother named Angie (the "Frank" is for Sinatra, whose picture presides over the festivities and whose various nicknames manifest themselves in the form of menu items). In defiance of the Austin area's college-fueled pizza saturation, Frank and Angie's has fought its way to the top of the pack with its unique, New York-style pizza, ingredient-intensive calzones, and a general Brooklyn-esque atmosphere.

Home Slice Pizza

A Slice of Life
1415 South Congress Avenue
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 444 7437
http://www.homeslicepizza.com/
Most Austinites will readily admit that the otherwise foodie-loving city is not the best spot in Texas for pizza. Luckily, there's Homeslice. The South Congress Avenue pizza joint serves piping hot NY-style thin crust pies for line-out-the-door crowds nearly every night of the week. If you've never indulged in East Coast pizza, their menu makes it easy with step-by-step instructions on how to eat foldable slices. In addition to oven-fresh pies, Homeslice tosses a great dinner salad and pours a wide variety of red and white wine. Plan a stop at this eatery to witness Austin at its best.

Lucy's Boatyard

Dining by the lake
3825 Lake Austin Boulevard
Austin, TX 78703
United States
+1 512 651 0505
http://www.lucysboatyard.com/
A part of the Comida Deluxe Dynasty, a hospitality group, Lucy's Boatyard provides a breathtaking view of the lake Austin and also serves an extensive cuisine ranging from salads and sandwiches to fresh Gulf sea food. A variety of Austin's ancient pizzas are part of the menu. Chicken fried New York strip steak served with homemade green chili country gravy, is one of the best in Texas. The homemade Crawfish Etuffe made with Gulf Shrimp and andouille sausage are a must have. During weekdays there is an added advantage as the rates go easy on the wallet. The outdoor ambience strikes a chord with the cuisine served. The fireplace and the nautical ambience are an added advantage.

Pizza Nizza

Gourmet pizzas and more
2712 Bee Caves Rd
Suite 106
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 474 7070
Located on Barton Springs' row of restaurants, this popular eatery serves gourmet pizzas, whole or by the slice, along with salads and pasta dishes, in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. An individual pizza runs with a number of toppings (goat cheese is recommended) and a bottle of house wine from the full bar makes a good meal. Lunchtime can occasionally be crowded, as Pizza Nizza offers an express lunch deal, but dinnertime is generally more low-key. Delivery is available to a limited area.

Family favorites are Dan's Special which has sausage, meatballs, mushrooms, black olives, onions, garlic, olive oil, basil, oregano and black pepper (whew!) or try the Uncle Tom's Special with Italian sausage, green peppers, onions and fresh basil. Vespaio

Cozy Italian dining
1610 South Congress Ave
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 441 6100
This cozy neighborhood eatery is a well-kept secret among the Austin dining elite. The chef lines up a delectable menu of fine Italian favorites that has kept the whole city talking. The service is pleasant and the prices are reasonable. The wine selection is extraordinary with 30 wines by the glass from which to choose. Dessert options average USD8 in price, but are well worth the indulgence. The wait for a table has become legendary, but the food more than makes up for it.
