Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - South Lamar

Movies, Food & Beer
1120 S. Lamar Boulevard
Austin, TX 78704
United States
+1 512 476 1320
http://www.drafthouse.com
Have you always wanted to enjoy a cold beer at the movies? You can here. In fact, you will find a nice selection of both domestic and imported beers, as well as wines and champagnes. The libations help you wash down the tasty pizzas, chicken wings or cheese- and salsa-smothered nachos as you take in a flick. Children at least 6 years of age can accompany their parents; patrons must ordinarily be at least 18 to attend on their own. The theater features mostly independent films. See website for showtimes, ticketing info, menus, special event calendar, merchandise and more.

Bess Bistro

Bullock Strikes Again
500, W. 6th St.
Austin, TX 78701
United States
+1 512 477 2377
http://www.bessbistro.com
Every city worthy of the name needs a couple of those underground restaurants that are accessible only by little stairways, marked only by red awnings, and housed in buildings that used to be one thing but which are now some other thing entirely. Helping to fill Austin's unfortunate lag in such matters is Bess Bistro, which deals in a menu that's best described as "Atlantic" and does so in an atmosphere that's particularly conducive to conversation. If the restaurant tickles your fancy, you have Sandra Bullock to thank – the Austin-based actress owns the place and even designed the interior. -Barrett Brown

Upscale Italian

+1 512 477 7497
http://www.carmelosrestaurant....
Whether for a deal-making business lunch or romantic dinner date, this upscale Italian spot proves worthy. The service is impeccable, but warm, matching the inviting atmosphere of stone, wood and soft lighting. Start with the Combination Antipasto for a variety of delectable tastes. As for entrees, the Steak Diane, is enough to impress anyone, while the Salmon Ravioli is a subtler pleasure. Then linger over espresso and dessert. You will not want the experience to end.

Grilled chic

Austin, TX 78727
United States
+1 512 835 0010
http://www.coolrivercafe.com/l...
Located in Arboretum, the Cool River Cafe is a steakhouse and grill. If you think a 'steakhouse' is an embellishment for 'place where cowboys carve into meat', you will be pleasantly surprised. The elegant and formal ambiance of the Cool River Cafe is often a platform for business meetings and wooing couples. Master chef Jamie Gutierrez serves up some of the most delicious Certified Angus Beef steaks (Steak Oscar's a pick) and seafood (Devil Creek Shrimp wins this one) with excellent pairings from the 375 vintages wine list. Ideal for those looking to make their first impression a lasting one.

FINO Restaurant, Patio & Bar

Flavors of the Mediterranean
2905, San Gabriel Street
Austin, TX 78705
United States
+1 512 474 2905
http://www.astiaustin.com/
The brains behind Asti probably got the inspiration for Fino when having a meal while perusing through an atlas. The cuisine is broadly categorized as Mediterranean but includes French, Spanish, Italian and Greek. This holds true for the wine list of around 90 labels as well, which include the staple French and Italian but also have vintages from Portugal and far away Australia. The tapas bar is a good bet as it lets you taste a bit of everything. Tuesdays are Spanish nights and Fino has Happy Hour everyday. Keep in mind, there are no rules: or maybe just one; come to Fino with an open mind and an empty stomach.

The Moonshine Grill sits in the oldest building in Austin and the decor tastefully reflects the same. The sweeping arches and exquisite mirrors on the brick and stone walls, not to mention the warm fire place all make for a cozy setting. The starters everyones raves about are the "Corn Dog" Shrimp (skewered shrimp in cornmeal batter, served with honey and blueberry mustard). The choice entrées are the Broiled Rainbow Trout and Texas Flat Iron Steak. Behind the main restaurant is a refurbished carriage converted into a bar, making the The Moonshine Grill an ideal setting, no matter what the occasion.

The restaurant, nestled at the base of Mount Bonnell, is housed within an exquisite stone building fashioned after the farmhouses of the Italian countryside. Provincial soups, breads, and desserts are abundant, and there is also a five-course menu available. The selection of Italian wines is especially extensive. It is currently quite a popular destination, and the clientele generally arrives in business or evening attire appropriate for fine dining.

Always something's happening
1014,North Lamar, Suite E
Austin, TX 78703
United States
+1 512 482 8868
http://www.winkrestaurant.com/
'Dynamic' is one adjective that can be used to describe Wink. The decor talks largely of cool tones, subtle lighting and Japanese rice paper hanging from the windows. The menu at Wink changes on a day to day basis as the restaurant ships in a lot of their ingredients daily, to maintain the taste and quality of their dishes. The sauces too are made with fresh puree. This isn't all. The wine list of around 70 selections undergoes changes every two weeks so that only the best vintages are stocked. You would definitely want to come back here for you are not treated like royalty everyday!
